Is there a way to save a file as .xcf in Photoshop?

There is a limited amount of Photoshop licenses that can be bought by my contractor. So we are using GIMP as an alternative for simpler jobs. But I need to save files that I have in .psd format as .xcf to work with it (I assume). Is that possible?
