I'm looking to make some text rotate 360 but keep having the same problem - the text rotates off screen! Any help?

I'm looking to make some text rotate 360 degrees but i keep having the same problem - the text rotates off screen! When i'm in 3D mode i created a video timeline, click the drop down 3D meshes, hit the timer, move the slider along and then rotate once (i'm following YouTube instructions). However after i've rotated, the text not only rotates, it moves itself off screen to the left (i can still see it, just). Does anyone know why this would be happening? I've search online and here to find a solution but no far nothing (apologies if it's been answered, i've not seen anything). I'm using Photoshop CC 2014. Many thanks.

Howdy Lindsay,

I'm not a guru on 3D, but just a thought.  Have you checked to make sure that the axis of rotation for you text is direction beneath it?  If not, then it would be quite reasonable for the text to rotate and (effectively) swing off the canvas in the process.

Hope that helps,
David

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, i'm not a 3D guru either (or a photoshop gura to be honest...learning as i go!). As far as the axis of rotation for the text etc, i don't think there is a problem. I have taken some screenshots of a 'before and after' scenario, i don't know whether this could give you any more information to help. The first picture below shows everything before i rotate the 'test' text. The second image shows the text now rotated, but moved off to the left hand side of the white page (you can just see it!). Perhaps there's something obvious i'm missing that's clear from these screen shots. If there is, do let me know! Hopefully there is and it's just a quick fix - otherwise i'm not sure what to do.

Many thanks,
Lindsay

Any chance you maybe rotating the camera instead of the text, just a thought!

Hi John,

Thanks for the response. I don't think i'm rotating the camera. I've uploaded a couple of screenshots (showing what i see when it happens) in my above response to David. Perhaps you'll see something that i'm obviously messing up here! If you do, let me know.

Thanks,
Lindsay

Let me just play this out. You have the text facing you when you set the first key frame. You then move the timeline where you want to end the first rotation and rotate the text, setting the end key frame. When you play it, it should than rotate so you can read it!

I just tried it on mine and it rotated fine. Here's a screen cap.

Lindsay. Here's a link to my psd file shown above. Maybe you can compare it to yours to help figure out why!https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjZLOy6GbYksga08E1RLeBMDg0Q3HA

Hey Lindsay, are you working now or do you still need help?  I can pass your bug to someone far more familiar with 3D to help you.

Just let me know,
Thanks,
David
