Help achieving a brush behavior
I'd love some advice on how to achieve this brush effect. I'd like to make a straight line (e.g. the round brush tip), but with semi-random spacing that gets wider the less brush pressure there is.

At this point, I've tried for long enough that I think it's impossible. :(
One way to do it would be to have scattering along the brush path inversely proportional to brush pressure, but scattering is only lateral or both (there's no stroke-aligned scattering), and you can't invert brush pressure.
I've considered texture and dual brush options, but I can't make that work either! (The only pressure-sensitive option is depth.)
Any help would be much appreciated!

Illustrator stroked with brush of choice and line modified to be a dotted line with each space and paint mark length set by you (up to a limit of about 6 or 8 repeatable length settings?) In art strokes you can probably adjust the stroke width along the path too.

The replies are close but don't quite offer the deliberate dynamic touch, like control when the lines are long vs dots by pen pressure.
To me, it sounds like Spacing should be added to Shape Dynamics setting and controlled by pressure. I think that feature would do exactly what the question asks.
Hope someone reads this and considers it for a feature.
