Glitch with changing fonts in Photoshop 2020.

When trying to change a font to something different, the font reverts to the previous font. Went back into Photoshop 2019 and no issues...

Howdy Max,

Can you tell me more about this problem that you're having?  What steps/actions are you taking?  Which OS are you on?  Does it happen every time?

Thanks,
David

macOS Mojave 10.14.4. It happens all the time. I switch back to Photoshop 2019 and everything works perfectly.

Hi Max,

But what is happening?  You launch PS, create a new document with a new text layer, then you start typing, select the text and change the font?  You're saying it just "changes back"?  Does this happen with all fonts and all text?  Is it happening with specific text?  Is that text unusual?  Are you sure all the glyphs in the line of text are available in the font you've chosen?  Have you turned off Missing Glyph Protection under Preferences > Type?  Could you post some examples / screenshots?

Finally, keep in mind Photoshop uses a different model than Illustrator for text -- your font reflects what you last did, so if you have missing glyph protection on and your font doesn't support the characters you're trying to type, you may well find the font face substituted for one that does.

Hope that helps.  I can help you drill down into what you're seeing with more info on your steps and what you're seeing.

Thanks,
David

I'm having this same issue and feel like I'm losing my mind.
I select the font layer. I click on the font name in the character window. I use the arrow up and down keys to cycle through fonts. I find one I like. I click on the selection tool. Font instantly changes back to the previous font from 10 min ago. omfg.

Howdy Decay,

Missing Glyph Protection.

That's what's going on.  Your text contains one (or more) characters that exist in the font you keep getting reset to, but those characters do NOT appear in the fonts you're choosing.  If you want to disactivate this feature, go to Properties > Type > and uncheck Enable Missing Glyph Protection.  Now, however, when a given glyph is missing in a font, you'll get a missing glyph symbol aka tofu box.

Thanks,
David
