Font selection issue in Character and Properties panels

When changing a group of text, different panels have different behaviour.

I did a screen capture but I don't know how to post it. Video shows:
1) Properties panel - I select all text, and go to the Properties panel. Starting with 'Asap' font family, I type in ‘Ubuntu’ font that I want to change all text to, and select a sub font in the dropdown menu, and it doesn’t change. It remains as 'Asap'.
2) Character panel - I select all text, and go to the Character panel. Starting with 'Asap' font family, I type in ‘Ubuntu’ font that I want to change all text to, and select a sub font in the dropdown menu, and it doesn’t change. It remains as Asap.
3) Character panel - I select all text, and go to the Character panel. Starting with 'Asap' font family, I type in ‘Ubuntu’ font, tab to sub font dropdown menu, type in or select the sub font, and hit return. All text changes to the new font.

I think I had simillar issue with changing Arial -> Open Sans

This is question for David Mohr. I think I discussed it here somewhere on this site. I think I saw this issue more if I had multiple font weights in single text layer.

Any chance to get screencast from you? It could be helpfull.

Howdy Karen (and Jaroslav),

What OS are you running on?  Latest version of Photoshop?  I ask, because I cannot reproduce the problems that you're seeing.

On both Windows & Mac, in the Properties panel, when I type in even a partial font name, I see all the various font instances (bold, italic, regular, etc) and I can select/change the font face without a problem via clicking (with a live preview when I mouse over the font face).  This is true in both committed and uncommitted (modal) states.  Further, I do see the same behavior as the Properties panel in the Character panel as well as the Options Bar.

So, something is different between my setup and yours.  For both OSes, I'm running a pretty clean environment.  I wonder if something is interfering with Photoshop.  It's kind of odd, because this should NOT be something impacted by other tasks, but I don't know how to explain what you and Jaroslav are seeing.  I either of you are up for a web-hosted screenshare, that might be a good way to get to the bottom of the problem.  Ping me here and I can set up a conference call if you'd like.

Thanks,
David

When we was talking about it, you said that this is because "missing glyph protection" but it happens even if fonts are not missing. I will try to find my post.

Here is some info:
Photoshop 2018 CC 19.0
Mac OS El Capitan 10.11.6
Extensis Suitcase Fusion 19.0.2

What I see happening with Jaroslav's screen capture is similar to what I see except I was selecting a text box with fonts from the same family, but had different variation of the same family. I can send you my screen capture which is about 14.2MB.

PS: I should also mention I work in all English so there are no "special" characters.

I can't reproduce it now. It works as expected.
Is font "asap" first in font list by alphabet?

I tried testing it again and again with different panels, and sometimes I'm not able to reproduce it. I find it's spotty, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't work. I tried unchecking "Enable Missing Glyph Protection" and it didn't make a difference.
