Cyan/Magenta problems, best combo values?

Question

Photo turned 'purple' when printed; is there an 'optimal' cymk value setting so as to minimize this issue? Original was a PDF that had lotsa blue and lotsa magenta/purple in it. When printed, the entire thing had a 'purple caste' to it. Are there any 'safe' value for cyan & magenta to try? Thanks.

I had this problem with my Canon Pro100 printer. I switched totally back to Canon inks and my Magenta skies printed Blue.

Have you tried soft proofing in PS using the target paper profile? If it looks OK then as C gjerde mentions you may have an ink or print head cleaning issue.

It's also possible the area of the image that is purple could be due to Cyan and Magenta values being too close to each other. This post suggest keeping them at least 30 points apart (Example C = 100 M = 70).

It all depends on what you are printing to. This is still a moving target in the print industry. If I print to a device such as a canon or even a large format hp indigo, I set my color profile to sRGB. Normally this has given me the most predictable results. If I send it out to a printing company (offset printing press) I let them do the conversation to cmyk. There are a lot of variables to consider with color output and matching...type of paper, how accurate is your monitor calibration, color profile specific to your output need (GRACO, SWOP), Adobe RGB 1998 or sRGB...again, it all depends on the output.
