Try this:
Documented in the 3D section on the known issues page: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/known-issues.html

In Photoshop 22.4 (May 2021), use of 3D features (Text extrusion, Lighting Effects, Normal Map and Bump Map filters) may not update the screen properly or render the correct results.

We recommend using the Tech Preview option for overriding Photoshop’s native canvas mode to continue to use the 3D features.

Go to Preferences > Technology Previews, and check the item Deactivate Native Canvas, then restart Photoshop.

@dramenon Hello and thank you for this post. I am experiencing issues with Filter > Render > Lighting Effects. I have tried turning on the preference "Deactivate Native Canvas" and the menu command, Lighting Effects... is greyed out in 8-bit mode. It seems to me, deactivating native canvas stops lighting effects from working. When this preference is unchecked, Lighting Effects corrupts the preview.

Lighting FX will be grayed out for 16/32 bit files, however, having it grayed out for 8 bit is not correct.

If you could email, daniel at adobe dot com your Help - System info, I would like to see if there is additional info that could shed some light on why this happened.

And if you can locate and add the "sniffer-out.txt" file(s) that would also be useful.

They are found here:

/Users/username/Library/Preferences/Adobe\ Photoshop\ 2021\ Settings/sniffer-out.txt
