What is the maximum file size that Photoshop Express for iPad will support? I am unable to get it to open any of my images

As a workaround, try using iTunes to sync your images to your device. iTunes will downsample images and this may allow them to load more smoothly.

Did you import the high resolution images into your iPad using Apple's camera kit, or iTunes?
If you used the camera kit, please try using iTunes to sync the photos to your iPad by pointing to wherever the same images reside on your desktop/laptop.
One user reported better results after rebooting his iPad. Perhaps this freed up RAM to Photoshop Express's benefit. You might try this too.

It is also a iPad 1 that I own, so there is less RAM available in the first place!
I will raise a support ticket with Apple, but thanks for your help.

For anyone else with the same issue, it was because I had a whole load of apps running at the same time.
I've since found out that It's easy to view apps that are running by double clicking the home button (I didn't know that!), then press your finger on an app until the delete indicator shows, you can then stop the app by pressing delete. This freed up the memory and Photoshop express started working fine again.
Thanks for your help

But Flickr servers seem lower quality than Microsoft.
Apple iPad Photo viewer downsizes images when loading, to something like 50%.

If interest you, install Dolphin Browser for iPad.
Log in Flickr
Search and click the photo you want
Click ...
Click view all sizes (will appear as 1024)
Click Original (original won't open/load if Progressive)
Click & Hold Download Original size.
Click Download this link.
Open Downloads Folder Manager, it will take time, like loading another software with-in Dolphin.
Resume if needed
When download is complete, Click Save Image to Photos Folder.
It Will take time, don't know why...
Maybe it's because IPad Photos Folder it's on a NTFS partition....
Apple IPad Photos software won't load a complete 50MP image.
But will load faster.
Photoshop Express does load the complete 50MP image, but will take time...
Only wish Photoshop Express had a resize feature.
And that could load 2 images at same time in tabs or windows.
Like in a view/edit mode.

and don't forget to erase Dolphin Downloads Folder, once saved to iPad's Photo folder.
