Why aren't document windows floating in Photoshop Elements 9.0.3?
After updating Photoshop Elements to 9.0.3, why do my document windows open as tabbed instead of floating?

We are not above reverting to the original behavior. Let us know your preferences on the subject.

(Speaking of settings, please fix the bug in the Saving Files preferences - it's not saving the Append File Extension setting.)

But I acknowledge that others may feel the opposite, so I wouldn't want to take away THEIR candy, either.
Give me the choice of which behavior I wish to be default.

If you choose to select floating documents do you want them to open floating or tabbed. For me its a no brainer ... I selected floating documents because I wanted them to float Duh !!!
Or is that just to simple ... :) :) :)
The answer really amuses me "default behavior of opening new documents was changed so that they always open as tabbed, even when floating windows are enabled." ... some user (identity unknown but certainly keeping his or her head down) requested this. Umm why didn't they just suggest he/she selected tabbed instead of floating, much simpler and less hassle for the rest of us.
Is the next change going to be Mode RGB opening as Mode Greyscale then you need to change it manually. :)

I want to open the pictures floated and NOT tabbed. But the recent update don't have a choose option and all my files get opened into "one" picture. I need to drag them out all the time which is very annoying!

If one simply wants to compare images, the Display Options can be used to show tabbed images side-by-side, etc.
If one wants to move or copy objects from one image to another, simply use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V on the relevant images.
If the old-fashioned method of drag-and-drop is wanted, drag to the image in the Project Bin, or to a tabbed image displayed in a side-by-side view.

The question really isn't between tabbed documents and floating ones ... lets face it some of us like tabbed documents and some of us don't.
The question is ... if you choose floating documents (an option which Adobe provide) do you want them to open floating or tabbed.
To me logic says if you choose the option floating documents then they should open that way and if you choose tabbed documents then they should open tabbed.

I have closed the project window beacuse it takes too much space on a wide screen display.
I'm dissapointed that the tabbed images are default (2 extra clicks is too many)
I'm dissapointed that i allways have to remove a lot of images when trying to print just one (2 clicks too much)
I think i will reistall Photoshop 6
