Revel: Confirmation that files are local on my computer

I'm getting ready to cancel my subscription with Adobe Revel since they are dropping support in future version of Elements. Since integrating Elements 13 and Revel, I started sharing pictures via mobile albums. I always import my pictures into Elements organizer first and then create a mobile album to share them. I only have a handful of albums sitting in Revel.

Since I import them into Elements first and then drag and drop them to a mobile album, aren't all the actual picture files still residing on my local hard disk? I'm assuming this is the case and I can just stop using Revel and all my 1000's of files will still be on my local hard drive (I've never uploaded files directly to Revel without going through Elements first).

I can see the files physically on my local drive but would like to confirm with an expert before making such a big move. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sam,

All your files which you have imported from Local/External Hard drive into Elements Organizer continue to remain on the physical hard drive irrespective of whether you have shared them on Revel or not.
However, if you have any Revel Previews (i.e. files which have synced from Revel cloud to your machine and whose master files are not yet downloaded), it's advisable to download them first. For these files, if you right click, you would see an option "Download Master" enabled in the context menu.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Hi Sam,
I hope Andaleeb has clarified your doubt.

To add to Andaleeb's comment, as a fail-safe measure, I would say, select your Revel library from left panel in Organizer so that the Organizer grid shows all media belonging to that Library. Once done, select all your media in grid, right click and select 'Download Original'. This will download original images from any preview that you may have in your catalog. Repeat this process for all your Revel Libraries that you have.

Also since this is a big more, I would recommend you to please try with a small set of media/album at your end, confirm that things work the way as you intended and then do this change the entire catalog.
Also just wanted to know, how you are planning to 'stop using Revel'.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Andaleeb and Surendra,

Thank you for your responses. I'm pretty sure I've never uploaded any files directly to Revel without going through Elements so there shouldn't be any previews that exist in only Revel. I'm afraid if I select them all and choose "download original", I'm going to end up with a bunch of duplicate files?

My plan to stop using Revel is to logout of Revel from within Elements and make sure the files I still see in Revel are also still in Elements and stored on my local hard drive. Once confirmed, I will delete the files on Revel and then cancel my subscription.

It's interesting that Adobe has decided to drop support for Revel in Elements. I've been an Elements customer for a very long time but it's been a bitter-sweet experience. The power of Elements is great but the program has always seemed to suffer with performance issues. Linking it to Revel made it even slower. I upgraded the drive in my laptop to an SSD drive which has made the Elements application bearable again but the analyzer seems to eat a lot of resources on the computer all of the time. To be honest, if I could find another organizer application that would recognize and retain all of my picture tags, I would probably move away from Elements because it's just too unstable.

Again, thank you both for all your help and advice.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that thinks PSE Organizer is a resource hog, specially when synced with Revel.

Hi Sam,
Please find my responses inline with your queries:
"I'm afraid if I select them all and choose "download original", I'm going to end up with a bunch of duplicate files? "
Nope, this should not happen. Ideally for a file whose Original is available locally (as you uploaded this media from Organizer), 'Download original' option should be disabled. Please confirm (by running this test on a single image whose original is available locally).

"My plan to stop using Revel is to logout of Revel from within Elements and make sure the files I still see in Revel are also still in Elements and stored on my local hard drive. Once confirmed, I will delete the files on Revel and then cancel my subscription"
I would like to add to your steps. After signout and once you are done with verification step, use the 'sign in as different user' feature in Organizer. For detailed steps refer to my comment in response of Rosa's query on my blog page: http://psekb.blogspot.in/2014/12/mobi...

Once done you can procede with deletion of media from Revel web client.

Please let me know if you have further queries.
