Revel and Photoshop Elements: Is Photoshop.com supported in Elements 11?

Photoshop Elements Organizer 10 had a nice feature that would back up your catalog to photoshop.com, there were Group Albums, all sorts of cool features that I do not see supported in 11. What gives? Hopefully, I am just missing something obvious...

Thanks,

-Michael

Hi Michael,
The 'Backup/sync to Photoshop.com' functionality is no longer supported in PSE11. Instead of Photoshop.com we have added support for Import/Export to Adobe Revel. Try this out and let us know your feedback.

Thanks, but I don't use Adobe Revel. I don't understand why this option had to be removed. I guess I will cancel my Photoshop.com account and find a new service to host my photos.

Removing that option was a "really bad" decision...

Revel does NOT meet the needs of us that were using the very awesome synching of Elements and Photoshop.com. Not even close. Specifically:

*No auto back-up and synching
*While you can export Albums from LR or PSE, it is not at all smart and if a pic is in multiple albums it is uploaded multiple times
*No keyword support - so you cannot get around the point above by assigning keywords to the pics, uploading your whole library, and then making albums online.

Please give us a solution that works!

How can a company that we PAY to serve us let us down so abruptly. Photos are extremely important. I agree with all in this forum. Why couldn't Adobe Revel be added to photoshop.com, not replace it?

It's real simple ... I will not pay Adobe an annual fee to host my pictures any more. A number of hosting sites (like SmugMug) are very user friendly. This last change did it for me. No more Adobe hosting ... EVER !

Emails were sent out in February to let Photosohp.com and Elements users know that Photoshop.com sharing and storage was being discontinued. The service was then shut down in July after all photos were migrated to revel. Photos were migrated to Revel for any user who did not opt out. Paying users of Elements plus and Photoshop.com were given refunds and a free year of revel premium.

This is why Elements 11 and 12 use Revel for cloud storage and sharing instead of Photoshop.com. It is a different cloud storage and sharing option also offered by Adobe. It was not designed as a replacement, but has some overlap in features with Photoshop.com. Elements 11 has upload and download capability with revel, but Elements 12 has two way sync with revel much like you had in earlier Elements versions that were set up to sync with Photoshop.com.

Many Adobe products can now interface with Revel, including Elements, Premiere Elements, Lightroom, Photoshop Express, GroupPix, and VideoBite. Revel apps are available for iPad/iPhone, Windows 8 computers and tablets, and Mac. Other platforms can login via web browser at adoberevel.com. FAQ's and how to's are available at:

Getting Started with Revel: http://www.adobe.com/support/revel/ge...
Revel Forum FAQ's: http://forums.adobe.com/community/rev...

I hope that helps explain things for everyone.

Thanks for the reply. I have 14,000 carefully organized photos in Elements Organizer and Photoshop.com. I am looking through Revel and the new Photoshop Elements 11 and I don't see a clear strategy for getting everything into Revel while preserving my Albums and Tags, etc. I see how to import or export a given album of course.

Photoshop.com and Elements Organizer were tightly and wonderfully integrated. Should I adjust my expectations in this regard? Thanks,

-Michael

I guess what I'm asking for is what is the strategy for getting stuff into Revel from Photoshop Elements Organizer or Photoshop Express. I am really hoping the answer is not: Just start over in Revel. :)

Brett - It's been three months. How long are we going to have to wait for a solution?

I feel very uncomfortable going forward. A reputable company would have a solution before eliminating services and disappointing loyal customers. I have 12,000 pics synced to Adobe. Current subscribers should be grandfathered into the "new plan" at the current rate. What happened to email notification or a warning before downloading the upgrade to #11. There was no discussion of all the options that were eliminated between #10 and #11. Very disappointing to us all.

Great. Thanks Brent. I will indeed stay tuned and while I'm sure you can't always speak candidly about forthcoming development initiatives, I am also keeping my fingers crossed that you will build the same type of tight integration between Elements Organizer and Revel as you did with Photoshop.com. The two really complimented each other nicely. Alternatively, I would be just as happy if Revel grew to replace Elements Organizer.

And in the meantime, I am hoping the marketing folks tip their hands a bit as to how these products are supposed to work together if indeed they are, and what type of workflow we should follow between these great products.

Thanks all,

-Michael

Sorry to jump into this thread at a later time but I am very confused about the relationship between Revel and Photoshop.com. I have paid additional money for more storage on Photoshop.com. Is Adobe now saying that I must pay MORE money to get Revel to back up my 22,000 images? Is there no backup available for PSE 11 on Photoshop.com?

Agreed. What's the deal Adobe? How do these products relate to one another and how do they relate to Elements 11?

I would renew my Revel subscription if I knew what the plan was...

Unfortunately, we can't provide any concrete information. Part of this is because decisions, even now, are in flux. Dates change as do plans. So until we know for sure what is going to happen and when, we can't make any announcements, because something else might change.

What we have currently are a number of possible plans/options and a whole lotta work. We'll let everyone know for sure once we do.

Oh, and Gary (the previous response was for Michael), currently there is no relation between Photoshop Elements 11 and Photoshop.com, nor is there is a relationship between Photoshop.com and Revel. You can continue to upload images to Photoshop.com, but there is no automated feature to do this in PSE11. Instead, there is a feature to upload images from PSE11 to Revel. You can continue to use prior versions of PSE to upload automatically to Photoshop.com. In the near future we are hoping to have some changes in this triad to help clear things up.

Brent,
I totally get it. Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to leap forward. The essential things to me are the ability to sort photos by date and tage them by person and back them up online. Would you contact me backchannel if you need constructive power user feedback? I have been using this product since it was called Album and came bundled with Photoshop Elements.

That's exactly it. Revel is still in it's infancy and we're trying to figure out how to make it have all of the strengths of Photoshop.com along with it's unique characteristics that set it apart in the first place. We are migrating Photoshop Elements to Revel because of the potential we see in it, and while we would have liked to time this the version 11 release, we were unable to. As you say, a step back to make the leap forward, the deep breath before the dive.

As for constructive feedback, that is exactly what this web site was created for. We do want bug reports and feature requests disappearing from view in an often one way conversation. We want to open topics to discussion, to get everyone's feedback on ideas. Feel free to create new discussion topics here so everyone can put their two cents in.

I have photoshop 11 on my PC and an iPad. I export photos to Revel, but the folders and events do not show up. Why? Am I wasting my time? I have photoshop.com before. Don't know if I should keep photoshop or go elsewhere. You shouldn't release new software unless you have the basics figured out. Without a windows versions being released has created a mess.

Not good. It seems to me the integration with Elements was the number one attraction to keeping photos on Photoshop.com - since this feature is apparently now phased out and there is no clear migration path... I'm not seeing why I would store photos on photoshop for a fee when there are several free options that also do not offer the Elements integration. What a disappointment.

I agree it is very disappointing that photoshop.com back-up/sync was not included in Elements 11. I purchased Elements 11 expecting an "upgrade" that would allow me to use another Photoshop service I'm paying for. Find out that I can't use Photoshop.com with 11. Instead, I'm supposed to use a new "pay" feature--Revel-- that hasn't had a long promised Windows compatibility implemented yet. Further, Revel doesn't offer the functionality that Photoshop.com did. Very disappointed I purchased Elements 11 and am probably going to cease being a Photoshop customer of any type.

I really don't believe this. I just received a complimentary copy of PSE 11 for the Mac OS to make up for all the time/date stamp problems that Adobe couldn't fix in PSE 10!! And NOW I FIND OUT that my PSE 11 is USELESS FOR SYNCHING with the Photoshop.com site that has all my albums and that I JUST RENEWED MY SUBSCRIPTION FOR.

Let's see...4 months for Adobe to respond to PSE 10 Mac probllems + PSE 11 that DOES NOT synch to paid subscription site = Adobe could care less about its customers.

If you have a Mac, check out the App store...Adobe's getting some competition...Thank goodness!!!!

I am really, really disappointed about the removal of the backup/synch. If I would have seen that particular item mentioned before, I would not have bought this yesterday, I did not notice until I tried to configure the sync on my laptop. I had heard something about not being pestered about the online service, but not that it had ceased to integrate altogether. This is a huge step back, I depended on that online storage for my peace of mind about my photos, and I pay for extra storage! I can't believe Adobe would do this.

Revel is in the cloud. Right now, you can upload images from either Windows or Mac. However, the apps used to view your image carousels on mobile devices is currently iOS only. We are developing solutions for other platforms.
