Just got a new laptop w/o dvd drive. How can I install Elements 2.0?

Just got a new laptop w/o dvd drive. How can I install Elements 2.0? I Have CD and serial number. Adobe doesn't support that old of a version, so they would't/couldn't help. It ran ok on previous desktop, Windows 10 once I increased the virtual memory setting.

Shocking.  How many years have passed since elements 2.0?

Buy a drive.

Also verify your hard drive or ssd has no more than 1TB of free space, since pse 2 won't work on drives with more than 1TB of free space.

You'll get a "scratch disk full message" when you try to start pse 2.

Have tried to load over my home network desktop that had a drive, it starts up, but won't go past "click to install".

You need a new disc with a new program.  2.0 is old, face it.  Unless you use the compatibility mode, it's page frames are to small for a 64 bit system and won't allow it to work.  If it never worked in your desktop it won't work in your laptop.  Don't get a drive.  Get a new program.  Final.

Worked for me on windows 10 desktop, then a windows 10 laptop, probably in compatibility mode. Yes, I know it's old, but it does everything I need and why pay $100 just to have relearn stuff I don't need. Just be happy if someone could help me get it loaded.

But it's not working now.  If it works in compatibility mode in Windows 10 then you may have it.  But it won't load onto your laptop, so you need a drive.  That will close you $20-$30.   Go buy one.  Load your program.  If it does not load,  the 64 bit page-frames where the drive saves your program on the drive are too large and the program is looking for smaller page-frames.  It's programmed to look for a 32 bit system with smaller page-frames.  This is why it doesn't find most of its program when you go to setup.  It's not finding it.  That's the page frames.

Look at them like file folder placements.  Your program is inserted into them, maybe many of them.  In a 32 bit system they are smaller, and your program inserts in certain page-frames as they are found.  But now they are larger in a 64 bit environment so if your program is inserted your drive cannot find them as indexed.  This is just one reason why your program is not being found and not setting up.

I newer program won't have that problem.  If you don't want to spend $100, find an older version such as Elements 12 or 14 which has the same good tools and will work in a 64 bit system.  I remember Elements 2.0 had a "smudge tool" which none of the newer versions don't have.  That's only one tool to change out of.  I don't have 2.0 anymore.  I changed out of it.  You have to face it some time and move away from it.  Sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zone to find a better way of using Elements.

Also, your older version is looking for an index in a FAT system rather than a NTFS system.  They work in opposite ways.

Hey there,

It sounds like you may need to install Elements using a digital download (which I am sure you can still get hold of). Since the box you've purchased has a license key, you can simply download the free version and then activate it in the software using that license key. Failing that which I can't see why you can buy a plug in USB drive for your laptop - Hope makes sense any probs please PM.

Ah Just read some of comments above & sure they are far more advanced - my teacher was right all them years ago ' Read everything before answering :) - All the best!

The best thing to do if your able to copy files from another computer that has dvd drive is to copy the install files directly to your windows 10 (new laptop) then try running the installer. Which would be better than using an external dvd drive.

I have pse 2 running on windows 10 x64 ver 1909, so there is no reason it won't work other than what i mentioned above about the 1TB of free space.

It should be said however, that a new version of photoshop elements does offer some advantages over pse 2, such as being 64 bit and optimized for windows 10 and if your interested in getting or have a digital camera that shoots in the camera raw format, newer pse versions such as the current pse 2020 will process those files.

Hey Jim,  If you can send me the mailing fees, I can send you a PSE 12 which hasn't touched a single drive in its whole life and is still in its soft pack wrapper.  I have the 6X9 envelope flat to send it in if you can pardon my company logo on the label.

I will send you a payment module for my company that uses Paypal credit cards.  But for that I need your regular email address.  Nobody else here wants it.  Trust me.
