Elements (prior versions): Doesn't work with new macOS 10.14 Mojave

Elements 11 opens, I can open a jpg but when I start to edit the picture Elements immediately closes with no error message.

Same here...I'm guessing we have to upgrade to a newer version.

I was hoping to find a solution to this as well. Anything I try to do causes Photoshop to crash.

Hi All,

We're really sorry for all the trouble. Please try adding Photoshop Elements 11 under the Accessibility in System Preferences.

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Select Security & Privacy.
  3. Click the lock to make changes, then enter your system username and password for your computer.
  4. Select Privacy from the top set of tabs, then select Accessibility from the left-hand column of options.
  5. Click the + (plus) button under the list 'Allow the apps below to control your computer'.
  6. Navigate to the Applications folder and select the Photoshop application and click Open.
  7. Click the lock to prevent further changes. Relaunch Photoshop.
Let us know if that helps.

Regards,
Mohit

Worked for me with PSE 15 but now when I open PSE 15 I get the message:
“Adobe Application Manager Utilities” is not optimised for your Mac and needs to be updated,  and tells me to contact the developer.  HELP!

That's just saying that part of Elements is 32-bit. You can ignore that. Eventually 32-bit applications won't be supported on future versions of macOS and you will either need to stick with the version of macOS you have, or update to a newer version of Elements designed to work on current versions of macOS.

I followed the instructions and it still doesn’t’t work.  I have Elements 11.  Have I lost the ability to use it now?

I too have tried the solutions to no avail so have uninstalled Elements 11 and bought the 2019 edition which works very well at the moment.  Fingers crossed, no problems.

I am still trying. I would like to know, am I wasting my time trying to use Elements 11?

After I clicked on give app permission to control computer(running Mojave on 10.14.2 Mac OS) and tried to work with Elements which still crashed every time, my Mac photos app doesn’t work right now.  I cannot use faces, memories, click on images to open them, basically giving the permission to control my Mac has wrecked my photo app.  Thousands of photos .  How do I fix this problem?

I was also told 32 bit is going to be obsolete this year.  64 bit will be replacing it.

Did the trick for me! The option of not letting Elements 11 to control my computer was not checked. Thank you!

Hi Mohit,
I have the same problem with Elements 11 and the update Mojave.
I tried your suggestion by adding photoshop Elements under the accessibility in System preferences.
Sorry, the problem was not solved.

My photos app on Mac is’t working now after giving adobe permission to control my mMac.  I have tried removing everything back the way it was and Photos on Mac is wrecked.  The viewer won’t open when I double click a photo, the memory and faces doesn’t work now.  It is a mess and I cannot get it straightened out.

I have Photoshop Elements 19 and I upgraded to Mojave. I have tried your solution twice now, both times restarting my computer after allowing the Photoshop Elements under the accessibility in System Preferences.
Sorry, the problem was not solved. Is there anything else I can do? Thank you!

Just solved for me too Thank you. Have just tried to open a new Photo collage and it keeps closing, so yet another problem.
Now to try and change the smallllllll menu texts on my Microsoft Surface 2 as I cannot work on it as they are too small.
I can only assume Photoshop Elements 11 is too old a version!

I've got Elements 14 and it seems to have worked for me.  Under Mojave Elements just hung at every command for minutes on end (how I love that spinning wheel) but all seems well after giving Elements control.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Elements 12: Editor will not open after installing macOS Mojave.

After previously installing the latest update for Mac, it seems to have stopped my computer from opening Photoshop Elements 12 Editor.

The application tries to load, however stops without letting me know the issue.

This was bought via disk and we no longer have the disc to reinstall.

Need help asap.

Whenever I save a BW image from Nik Silver-Effects back to PS Elements (13) everything crashes, including PSE.  I followed the suggestion above regarding Security and Privacy but that did not solve the problem.  I am running Mac Mojave 10.14.1.  Any suggestions??

This solution worked for me on Mojave.  Every once in awhile it gets hung up and I have to Force Quit PSE and when I restart it, it's fine.  No reboot required.  Thank you!

I have the same problem.  Works for a while then hangs again with the multicoloured disc. Force quit and start again and it's OK again.

I have the same problem, I even bought Elements 2019 thinking that must work OK, but has the same problem.  I think Apple is the culprit and it's nothing to do with 32bit or 64bit, just Apple up to its old tricks.  Gonna start looking at programs like GIMP.

Hi, I have the same strange problem. Now I am thinking about CSP (Clip Studio Paint) as it seems really suited to my needs as an artist and not just photo editor. It is a lot cheaper than PSE for this package. I have tried all the tricks above but with no luck. My Elaments 13 has a curved arrow on it, which tells me it is not where it ought to be. I have Mac Catalina which is a recent update. That is when PSE failed. Good luck with other programmes. Krita is also good and free.

You have to follow the instructions for Mojave and add it to the security settings.
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/editor-does-not-start-freezes-mac-mojave.html

and then, when it still doesn't work, run the the Uninstaller from inside the Application/Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 folder. Now log into your Adobe account and download Photoshop Elements 15 from my Adobe Account (plans/my plan/order history) and re-install.

This restored functionality in Mojave but the Organizer was still 32 bit (!?!?!). After a reboot, the Adobe Applications Manager showed up in the Menu bar. Clicking through that updated to Elements 15.2 and the Organizer is now 64 bit.

Does this mean it will work in Catalina? Won't know till is ships, then I'll give it a try.

I have Elements 6 and 15 working fine over Mojave. I haven't a clue as to why 6 still works — only that it does. Pretty sure it won't install but I just keep upgrading the OS...
