Elements Organizer leaves temporary files

I use Photoshop Elements 10 to manage a large (40K+ images) image collection. I will typically add captions and tags to my images, then use Organizer to "Write Keyword Tags and Properties Info to Photo." I have observed that at times PSE / O will leave files on my system with names of this pattern: fname_edTMP-1.extension where 'fname' is the file name of an image that was in the set of images processed and 'extension' is the extension of the file processed. Extension will either be .psd, .jpg or .nef. There are times when both the original file and the temporary file are left in the folder and other times when just the temporary file is left. There is no pattern that I can determine and I've even seen it happen when I process a single file rather than a group of files. I've also seen this happen when I click on the date / time area of a thumbnail to change the date or time the image was taken. Then when I go back to the Organizer slide sorter (thumbnail) screen it will prompt me that it's found a new file in my collection. I noticed this problem on PSE / O 8 as well. I did not acquire PSE 9.

My system is an HP Pavilion with an 8 core Intel i7 processor and runs Windows 7 with all updates installed. I also use Adobe Bridge CS6 (for access to Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop) which I will typically have up on one display while PSE / O is up on the other display.

In PSE 9, PSE 10 and PSE 11, if you use "Write Keyword Tags and Properties Info to Photo.", then PSE creates copies of the files in the following location

When the update is finished, PSE does not remove these temporary files. This can consume large amounts of the system disk without any warning.

This was raised in the PSE forum

Is it really down to us users having to go around tidying up after Adobe?
