Elements: My text is not showing up on my photos.

If so, try resetting the tool by clicking the pop-up and selecting "Reset Tool" and see if that fixes the problem:

If resetting the tool doesn't work check the settings in Image>Resize>Image Size... (Elements) or Image>Image Size... (Photoshop CS5) dialog.

You probably have the resolution set really low or really high (in the example below it's set really low [ 1 ] which would exhibit this behavior):



If you set the resolution to something reasonable like 72 or 240, this behavior should work more like you expect.

I think this is the problem that MaryT, BlameTheCat and Valerie Potter are seeing with type being really small and point sizes not making any sense.

Hi Brenda, can you post a screen capture of your computer so we can see all the settings?

Is it possible the text is the same color as the background?

No, I've changed the text color and the only thing that is showing up on my screen is a small box that I can drag around. I'm new to this program, but I've been putting text on my photos since I purchased the program a few weeks ago. I just don't understand what I did. Is there a number I can call to speak with someone tomorrow?

I too am having the identical problem. My text menu line is exactly as shown in your screen shot, but when I reset the text tool....nothing....the little box stays! I've tried this already countless times! My text color has nothing to do in my case (black on light ground) as I just cannot get rid of that little box. One important note is that even though I try to type and the little box doesn't move, I notice what I've "typed" shows up as a new layer under edit mode but NOT on my work! If this is a common issue,WHY can't it be in the help menu under text issues???

I am having this problem also. My settings are like you show and I have reset the tool. My writing shows up on the text layer.But not my photo. Sure hope someone sees this soon I am trying to make a Christmas gift

If you create a new text layer after resetting the tool, does the text show up? Sounds like you don't have the text selected when you're resetting the tool, or you're not creating a new text layer after resetting the tool.

I do have the text tool selected for resetting and I created a new layer for thetext and nothing.

would it matter if the photo is not one I took but that was imported from a clip art site?

I think I have FINALLY figured out WHAT is happening with the text, but not WHY!

If you type something of course using the text tool and all you see is the little square box with no text curser and no text on your picture although it shows on the right side under layers that you indeed have a text layer and type, I have found that the text is EXTREMELY TINY on your picture. When I click the "move" tool, it highlights it with handles and all I do is pull one of the handles and voila....there's the text and it gets bigger for me to see!

I am confounded as to WHY this happens with the text being so small, but at least I have some kind of solution. When the text is tiny and I try to change the size with a numerical value, for some reason it does not do it and the numerical text size box above keeps reverting back to the tiny number even after resetting the text tool. The only way I solve it is as I said above....use the move tool and grab the handles to enlarge it.

I WISH Photoshop could jump in here and explain this because I had to help myself with alot of trial and error. After spending the money on this new version - 9 - , I was not a happy camper waiting to get someone to answer me and solve the problem because the answer is NOT to be found in the HELP menu! I cannot justify having to PAY additional on phone support for something that apparently others are experiencing too and not finding a solution in the HELP menu!! NOT FAIR!

What I don't understand is that it is either tiny that you cannot see it at all and the font size is miniscule, then you reset the font size and it either reverts back to the tiny size when you click on and are ready to use the tool, or you get an astronomical number and still don't see text. The only way I saw text WITH the text tool is by using the move tool and seeing the handles then enlarging that way.

I am duplicating the steps that cause the problem now.
1. I have open a photo/banner of 700 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall.
2. I click on the text tool and the previous size I had used for something else was !0.84. If I use this size to type, nothing shows on my picture except for a tiny square, but when I click in the picture, in the edit section at right, I see a new text layer showing what I wrote.
3. I click on the drop down for text size and increase to size 18 and I still see nothing but what appears to be a small box to enlarge.
4. I click on the move tool and that activates it, then I can pull the handle to enlarge.
