Elements: Face recognition no longer prompting

Lost my prompt for people recognition when it suggested a name or names.. Now I have to manually fill in full name for each person (100 per cent of the time). When I do that it works fine. I believe that I just accidentally hit a key that disabled that function. Photo shop Elements 9.

As this solution has been tucked under other responses, I'm posting again:

Here is a suggestion that came down from our engineers:

1. Close Elements Organizer
2. Navigate to
--Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\\BreezeData
--WinVista/7: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\\BreezeData
3. Rename "breezesession.dat" to "breezesession.old"
4. Retry People Recognition.

Is there a maximum of faces in the organiser?

The first thing you'll want to check is Edit>Preferences>Media-Analysis and make sure the "Analyze Photos for People Automaically" option is checked.

I got the same problem, but there is no BreezeData, only BreezeRecognition, breezepreprocess and BreezeDB. What can I do?

Followed instructions.
Everything for "media- analysis is checked including "analyze Photos for People Automatically" option.
Should I click "restore default setting"?
If so, will I lose anything that I have already identified (people, etc.)?
I appreciate your interest in assisting me with this problem.

Restore Default Settings only resets which boxes are checked and uncheck in the Preferences dialog back to factory defaults. This will have no effect on your images or previous facial recognition.

Is the problem that you are no longer prompted with the "Who is this?" rectangle around faces or that as you start to type in a name, the list of suggestions does not appear?

The "Who is this?" rectangle does appear as usual. When I move the cursor toward the rectangle around the person the "who is this" box appears and I type in the name and it is fine.
The problem is that until a few days ago the box under the photo sometimes would say "Is this john Doe?" and if it was John Doe I just clicked on the green checkmark and John Doe remained in the box without my actually typing John Doe in the box. If it wasn't John Doe many times it would give me three additional names to select from and by clicking on the correct name it would appear in the box without my actually typing in the name. This was a great help as I am working with a vast number of names and photos.

That does not bode well. Something may have become corrupted in the name database. There is no option to turn on or off the name suggestion list. Basically, the people recognition is a learning algorithm, the more faces you identify, the more it start to recognize the people as individuals and offers "Is this So-and-so?". But if something happens to the database it builds up to make this identification, it will stop making this recognition.

Have you moved, renamed, or deleted you catalog file or any of its support files or folders?

I'm going to consult the engineers behind this and we may need to collect some files to see if we can get to the root of the issue.

Thanks for your continuing interest in my problem. To my knowledge I haven't moved, renamed or deleted my catalog file or any of its support files or folders. The file is very large and I probably named persons appearing in 5 or 6 thousand photos.

I'm waiting on a friend to assist me with implementing your suggestion. I have MANY hours invested in identifying subjects in my photos and don't want to risk losing the project.

Seems to have worked for me. I did get one error message - I'm sorry but I don't remember what it was. Once I restarted, I haven't had any issues.

Problem: Now receiving a "CAHeadless Debug Event" error message. [..\..\Src\DataManager.cpp-410]

I get this message on CPU start up - before opening PSE 9. Now what?

I have the same problem with PSE10 organizer. It was working fine until I uploaded a new set of pictures from my camera. Organizer failed to complete the upload to the catalog, and I had to load the pictures manually. After I had done that, the pictures appeared in my catalog, but the People Finder no longer worked. I had not made any changes other than uploading the pictures.

I Googled the error, and eventually found this thread.
I renamed the breezesession.dat file as suggested, and that appeared to solve the problem, although the people recognition had to start learning all over again. However, the next time I Organizer, the people recognition failed to function again.

If I open a photo, it recognizes that there are faces present, and if I manually type in a name, it autofills the name from an existing tag. However, if I select the same photo and run the People Tagging, it tells me that there are no unlabeled people found in the selection.

I found a bunch of other threads where people have been dealing with the same issue going back to PSE 8, but no definitive solution.

Any other ideas for getting this resolved?

We need more info about why/when this happens. This doesn't happen to everyone, so we need to know if this is caused by certain files (i.e. there was something about a particular picture analyzed that caused this, or possibly external forces).

Would you be willing to share some files to help us investigate?

I uploaded NEF and jpeg files from my Nikon DSLR using Nikon Transfer, and I saved them to the My Pictures folder. This is a PSE watched folder. I had not made any changes to them - simply saved them. When I opened PSE, it found the new pictures and gave me the option of importing them. I check the select all option and tried to import them to the catalog, but got a PSE error (don't recall exactly what it was). The photos did not appear in my catalog and I could not manually load them at first, because PSE kept telling me they existed already or could not be found. I tried catalog repair and a few other things - don't recall my exact steps due to the time elapsed, but eventually I was able to manually load the pictures by going to the folder view in PSE. I tried to run people recognition on the new pictures and it wasn't working. P/R had run fine just a few minutes before I uploaded my photos from the camera. At first I thought it was just the new photos that were affected, but when I went to an older set of photos that I was still working through, I realized that P/R was not working at all.

I found this thread and followed the instructions for renaming the breezesession.dat file, and at first that appeared to work. However, the next time I went into PSE, P/R was no longer functioning. I did notice, however, that there was no new breezesession.dat file in the directory, which I thought was odd.

I did get it (P/R) to work again. In desperation, I created another catalog, and was intending to copy the photos to the new catalog. I got an error creating the new catalog, so that failed. What was worse is that my original catalog would not open anymore, even though it was listed in the Manager. I then closed PSE, and opened it again. My original catalog reappeared with all the photos intact. I went to the Catalog Manager, and saw the second catalog listed, even though I had gotten an error previously. I deleted it. I then tried P/R on my original catalog, and it was working again - it had to start learning all over again, but at least it worked. I closed PSE and then re-opened it, and P/R was still working. I took another look at the Programdata directory (Win 7), and this time there was a new breezesession.dat file. P/R has been working since that day, and I have loaded new photos from the same camera without a problem. I am still working through cataloging all my photos, and doing it in small batches, but so far, so good.

If there are files or logs that you think will help you to investigate, even though my problem appears to have resolved itself, I'm willing to share those with you. Let me know whaich file and how to get them to you...

From your description, it sounds like a whole other file was the source of all of these problems. Something that would have been recreated somehow by trying to create a new catalog. Not sure what this could have been. But whatever it was, it's probably not something that we will be able to collect and examine at this point.

I've never heard of something similar happening to someone else. Your issue is a bit more advanced/strange when compared to others where the Breeze file was the entire source of the issue.

We'll the information on what you did under consideration, but I'm not sure what lessons we will learn from this yet. That is, until we can reproduce and test.

THANK YOU Brent N.

The fix worked perfectly. I am so happy. I just upgraded to Elements 11 and the issue was still occurring. Your fix corrected it.

Thank you so much!

Hello, I also have this problem. I followed Brett's fix above and renamed Breezesession but I still cannot get it to work.

It worked as it should have done the first time I loaded some jpg files but then stopped working as it should have done.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. I previously installed Elements 10 on a trial basis but eventually upgraded to Elements 11.

This is the address for the breeze file -
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\\my catalog 1\BreezeData\breezesession

Regards,

Barry

You should be using the "My Catalog" folder instead. "My Catalog 1" is the copy that is generated when you upgraded to Elements 11. Recreating the Breeze session in the folder you list won't have any effect.

Brett,

This issue is marked as solved although I don't believe the original poster ever acknowledged a successful resolution.

Regardless, I am having the same issue as the original poster (program no loger making suggestions) and the solution posted does not appear to be resolving the problem.

Thanks for your assistance.

I have a similar problem. Face recognition worked fine until a couple of months ago, and now it's not working at all - no prompts or anything.

I couldn't find the breezedata.dat file in the location you said, but there is one in the folder G:\Photoshop 9 Catalog\H...s\BreezeData. This is because I moved the catalog to a USB drive so I can move from computer to computer.
The folder contains about 20,000 xml files as well as the breezesession.dat file, which is 420kb. the breezesession.dat file has today's date. If I delete (rename) it, will I lose anything useful?
