Elements: Brush/eraser hangs in Yosemite MacOS 10.10

Photoshop Elements hangs now when I use brush/eraser tools following the installation of Mac Yosemite OS on my Mac. Others have reported this problems on other feeds. I hope that Adobe will give priority to fixing the apparent incompatibility of Printshop Elements with Yosemite OS.

I'm running Elements 12 with os Yosemite. When I select a tool in the editor, it locks up my entire computer. I must use the power button to shut down and restart. Can anyone suggest a fix for this?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Yosemite and PSE 11 and 12 incompatible. Help!.

Since updating my macbook pro to Yosemite, PSE 12 will not work with the trackpad. I have spent hours on several Adobe forums exchanging ideas and complaints with many other people who have that same issue. I wonder if anyone at Adobe can help with this issue or is aware of it or is just ignoring it? I cannot find a direct way (except for paying for tech support) to communicate with an Adobe It person. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am an intermediate Mac user and PSE 12 and Premier Elements 12 quit working when I downloaded OS X Yosemite. I've uninstalled and reinstalled them a few times and they give me a configuration code at the end of the process when you do to launch. I was have Photoshop Lightroom 5.6 issue to but its working now and may not have been related (started when one of my Sony cameras wouldn't import into Lightroom but the other Sony camera did. I renown;loaded PSE 11 and it boots up but I haven't tried working with it. Also there is a conflict with DiskWarrior 4.4 but everything else see,s to work.

Using a mouse instead of a trackpad is NOT A SOLUTION!
I am a graphic designer and require my wacom tablet for fine tuning works which is close to impossible with a mouse.
Why cant someone official say when this issue with photoshop cc, elements etc will be solved and Yosemite and adobe actually collaborate symbiotically

Seriously, careers are hanging on the line here

GOOD LUCK: I have been fighting this issue for a couple of weeks - adobe is not responsive to the issue.

I see they deleted one of your comments James. I was just looking through the list of deleted comments for the forum and saw that -- didn't see what your comment was....at least I'm pretty sure it was yours.

I agree it should be fixed by apple/Adobe. However your career could be saved by spending $80 and upgrading to 13

Question mainly for the Adobe staff. If it works on PSE 13 and doesn't on PSE 12 has anyone looked at the differences between the two versions, in the area of concern?

It would be useful to understand why one works and the other doesn't in more detail. Knowing what the difference is it would then follow that it may be possible to release a patch to PSE 12, until if/when Apple come out with a fix on their side.

Unfortunately with Apple's OS APIs, just using a different version of the compiler could cause issues like this to occur. Comparing the code probably won't tell us much, because so many things changed in the OS code (which we don't have access to).

Whilst changing the compiler can certainly cause any form of issue to occur they are usually more subtle than this, and my experience with compiler vendors is that they are usually very good at providing compatibility.

What bothers me most is that you have a good set of situations to compare against that should provide a good deal of evidence to both Adobe and Apple.

PSE 12 works on Mavericks it doesn't work in this area on Yosemite, it works with a mouse another comparison point. PSE 13 also works on Yosemite so something was changed to make it work. The problem is clearly related in some shape or form to the handling of pointer events. You have debuggers for all the cases where it works and doesn't work, you can set break points and look at the data, look at the events being produced, at the point that it happens. You have the source code for elements, even if you don't have the Apple OS code you do have a lot of evidence that can be being gathered to determine what aspect of the track pad is causing the problem to occur. Yes comparing the code could be useful, its another data point.

None of that level of investigation is being communicated on this channel. If it is going on great, but please communicate something to the that effect.

Appreciate you writing but your answer is way too technical for me. All I know is Adobe needs to get this fixed fast.

We can't tell you much about communication with Apple, due to Apple's NDAs.

And I'm not sure how people expect Adobe to fix Apple's OS code.

To a lay person (Adobe/Apple customer) in the seeming magic of messing with computer code this seems a reasonable request. Will you kindly answer this Adobe Scientist Chris?

Code is not magic. And Applications rely on the OS working correctly.

The code worked fine on older versions of the OS, and only broke when Apple released MacOS 10.10 - due to some change/bug in the OS code.
We don't know what all changed, but are trying to work with Apple to figure out what is going on in MacOS 10.10.

I'm wondering if other programs are "broken" and don't run well under Yosemite. I did see a comment that one of the versions of Photoshop had problems (also "solved" by using a mouse instead of the trackpad. Glad to hear that your techs are working with Apple to solve the problem. I can't imagine that the problem exists with just one application.

Yes, many applications (especially older versions) were broken by the MacOS 10.10 update. Some are due to OS bugs, some are due to changes (deprecated or removed APIs) in the OS.

DAVID: good luck! I just received an email from an adobe employee - to fix the problem, you upgrade to elements 13! Another $80.00 to fix a problem adobe should be fixing.

what does Apple have to say about this? Has anyone received a response from them with regard to the trackpad issue?

LYNNE: this is not an Apple problem! I received an email from an adobe employee today telling me the solution was to "upgrade to elements 13". That should tell you who caused the problem.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Elements 6: Freezes every time I try to save photo file text since upgrading to M....

My job involves writing captions for urgent news stories. When I caption images and go to save them, Elements freezes. I am now losing money and am mightily peed off.
Who do I sue ? Adobe, Apple or both ?
While I ponder that, how van I overcome this ? Please, someone, help.

Photoshop Elements 11 is no longer working properly since upgrading to Mac IOS Yosemite. Zoom in and out does not work on Macbook Pro, using the touch pad. Erase is not working smoothly. Clone Stamp is not working smoothly and when cutting and pasting a jpeg, the picture locks in the middle to middle of the inserted picture. Magnetic lasso is not locking onto the part of the picture being traced. That's all I found in the short time I used the program tonight.

the only alternative at the moment LRead is to use your mouse rather than your trackpad.....that worked for me.

I did however download PSE 13 -the trial version --- it is so much faster than 12 (probably because there is no incompatibility and also because Yosemite is faster).....I'm thinking that however the current issue is resolved, I'll end up with 13.

I am using a mouse. I have an iMac. I also have Elements 6 which some people suggest works Ok. It does not, I assure you. Apply offered men the update to Yosemite which it is now clear forums were already full of comments about bugs. Despite this there was no warning from either Apple or Adobe and I find them both culpable. Who do I sue ?

Elements 6 is about 7 years older than MacOS 10.10, and is so old that it wasn't even tested for compatibility with MacOS 10.10. I would be highly surprised if an application that old worked correctly on a new Apple Operating System.

surprisingly enough Elements 8 runs just fine - I was using that before someone mentioned using the mouse.....I know people don't want to upgrade, Chris, but I have to mention that I downloaded the trial version of 13 and it runs incredibly quickly (much faster than 12 ever did on Mavericks) - so, while I would like to see a fix for the current problem, I will definitely be switching to 13 once I can afford to do so (unless of course 12 is patched either by Adobe or Apple and it runs as quickly as 13). It may be Yosemite that make the difference actually, because Elements 8 runs quickly too!! FYI, I did a clean install of Yosemite which I'm sure sped everything up.

Greg South, try using a mouse until Apple/Adobe solve the problem. It worked for me though slowed me down.

When i drop a photo in the program freezes and I can't open or use any of the buttons like the magnetic lasso tool!!!
