Elements 11: Open/Save dialog grayed out and hanging on Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

I upgraded my iMac to OS X Maverics, yesterday, and Photoshop Elements 11 stopped working. The application opened but when I tried to open an image, virtually all the menue options greyed out and the application hung. I force closed Photoshop Elements, uninstalled it and re-installed it but the same thing happened next time I tried to open an image. I did find that I could open the image by clicking on it in inder and using "Open with" but this isn't satisfactory in the long term. Please help.

This is a general problem with the Coverflow view in Open/Save/Export finder windows on Mavericks (same issue affects a bunch of other applications including iTunes and Safari).

Set the view to Column or List view to avoid this problem until there's an update.

Apple fixed the issue with hangs and program errors in Save, Open, Export, Import dialogs using cover flow in Mac OS X 10.9.1 update or later.

Same problem here! I am only able to "save as" if I let it save to default folder, any time I try and choose the location to save it locks up & grays out the menu selections

If you have a Wacom tablet, you may want to update the driver -- that has reportedly fixed the blank menu/dialog issues for other users.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Wacom tablet. Are there any other drivers that might affect it (printers, scanners, etc?)

Two hours with the chat tech and he/she couldn't fix it. It's like Adobe doesn't know there is an issue. Or they just want you to buy PE12

I found that by closing Organizer, I was able to get the editor to work.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Grayed Menu Options - Cannot work and must Force Quit.

PS Elements 11 user - Since upgrading to Maverick OS, whenever I try to open a file, all of the PSE menus go gray, and I cannot select anything, and have to Force Quit. I deleted my preferences (didn't help), and also just reinstalled the software, and the problem still exists. HELP!

My guess is that the Abobe Aholes want you to pay for the Revel or something. I payed good money a month ago and done found out da product don't work. Best (dern) Buy don't take er back. The Aholes of Adobe Tech support done worked my 'puter over for 2 F$@& hours and had no clue over there in Vietnam.

My programmer husband figured out a solution: if I have the Finder view option with the icon that has 3 vertical rectangles, the 2nd from the right of the icons, then I don't get any graying. I hope this helps you all too.

Can you explain that with a bit more detail, Elizabeth? I'm not sure exactly what you're doing differently.

Sorry, I am not technical. Start Finder and choose to view items in columns. This is the 3 vertical rectangle icon that I was trying to describe before. Once I open Finder from my dock, it's the 3rd icon from the left on my computer.

Then open PSE 11 as normal and hopefully you won't have any graying issues.

Thanks for the info! However, when I open a file FROM Elements,(Select Open from the File dropdown menu), it automatically opens in the Coverflow view, and then grays out. Is there a way to change that within Elements??

I am leaving my Finder window open, with the Column view.

Is there way to change it real quick before it grays out?
