We apologize for the frustration faced with Photoshop Elements 11 and El Capitan, we’re working with Apple to resolve this issue long term.

In the near term, Apple has released the 10.11.5 update to El Capitan which is resolving this issue for most users.
See more about updating to 10.11.5 update: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1877?locale=en_US

Can I ask a dumb question? If Apple changed the API for El Capitan for downloads from the App store was the new API's ever tested? Because if the issue was known would it have not been wise to remove the Elements from the App store and force a download from the main Adobe site. May have prevented all this grief

Elements 11 hasn't been available in the app store for several years now. And you can't force a download from from the app store of something that isn't on the app store.

Pete is working to provide a workaround for everyone who posts here. Unfortunately only Apple can provide a long-term fix to the issue in their OS code.

try downloading Elements 11 or 14 straight from Adobe and you can at least work 30 days on trial. I did that and it works

After installing El Capitan, Photoshop elements 11 opens, but then automatically closes, so I cannot use it or test anything.

Then you have a different issue that is not related to this topic. Please post a new topic with a lot more details about the problem you are seeing.

I can't even download files from my camera to Elements 11.  It doesn't recognize my camera.  What is the work around for this?

Again, Apple's support people apparently don't have access to Apple's own bug database - so they have no idea what is actually an Apple problem or not.

I've been holding off updating to El Capitan (but I really would like to be able to use it!) and now I am glad I did.  I hope there is an email sent out to the "Photoshop Family" when/if this issue of compatibility is fixed.

This is not just Photoshop for me. It's everywhere. I say it's an Operating System issue. I can't save a photo from a Google search, I can't upload a document or photo from my drive with any application since updating to El Capitan (MacBook Pro, 13 inch,  early 2011). This is not a good answer.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Can't Save Files on PE-11 Editor with El Capitan.

Purchased PE-11 on 16 March 2014 through Apple App Store. Has worked beautifully until now. Now, we are no longer able to save files. Recently installed OS El Capitan (not sure if this is related).

Exactly what happened to me! I guess I'll call AppleCare and see what they have to say!

2 Messages

 •

60 Points

Did you get a response from AppleCare? Because the same problem happens for me, and it happens when saving edited images on other web-editors. The pop-up window to save the file does not allow me to save my files, and I have to force quit my entire mac.
And I just upgraded to El Capitan. Checked on my sisters mac who also just updated, same thing.

9 Messages

I had a workaround that sort of worked at Christmas Time.
It no longer works with subsequent El Capitan updates, nor can I find a PS Elements 11 Upgrade. My product is just two years old (which given its cost is not a timeframe for obsolescence to be acceptable).

The official response to this post is 4 months old, and yet the problem persists. I have (unpaid, voluntary) work to do for the next week - unpaid does not mean no deadline -  and need this software.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Is there any reported issue related to 'saving edited images' in Ps Elements 11 o....

When attempting to save an edited photo, the pop up window does not enable the saving action.

The upper right buttons of the window (for closing, enlarging or minimizing the windows) are not working nor the saving button.

No save for me in Elements 11. How Adobe, a fairly big software developer, can so bashfully and disrespectfully utterly disregard it's responsibilities to paying customers as to leave Elements discarded and broken this long _after_ the release of Apple's latest OS, is frankly mind boggling!

15.1K Messages

 •

195.8K Points

Please let Apple know about the problems introduced in the latest release of their OS so they can investigate their code and get a fix for you in an OS update.

18 Messages

 •

There are always the chance that I am wrong, I'm no troll. But seriously mate?!

Your thesis is that Apple released a major OS upgrade that killed but ONE of my app's (installed on my Mac) ability to save files. They made some kind of mistake, you imply, that only the immaculate Elements 11 innocently steps into, while all the rest of my installed software (quite a lot) on my Mac happily keeps functioning perfectly just as before the update.

This not only seems extremely far fetched and bizarre, but Occam's razor implies that the error here lies within Elements and how it saves files.

15.1K Messages

 •

195.8K Points

Actually Occam's razor (and all basic logic) says that the factor which changed (the OS version) is at fault. The Elements code did not change in several years, but the behavior changed when you installed a new OS version (which contains new code and can change behavior).

You are having a problem with the new OS version that did not occur in the old OS version, so you need to let the OS vendor know about this issue that is affecting you.

We are documenting the problem for Apple, but it is best if Apple hears from affected customers as well.

18 Messages

 •

250 Points

Well, there is little dispute to the fact that Apple released a new OS, and everyone around seems to realize that this might entail some change. So what the other software developers did, apparently, is to correct and presumably test their code to make sure that their applications work as intended with the new OS.

If you did nothing to the Elements code, and it stopped working, while all my other bought software still keeps on working through this change, Occam and logic implies that you failed to do something that the others apparently got right. No?

18 Messages

 •

250 Points

It seems idiotic to tell Apple that they changed something in their newest OS release that caused "code that hasn't changed for several years" to stop working. Do you seriously mean that this would be a problem at Apple?

18 Messages

 •

250 Points

You state the following yourself:
A) "he Elements code did not change in several years"
B) "but the behavior changed when you installed a new OS version (which contains new code and can change behavior). "

Ergo, you yourself imply that the error lies within Adobe, that failed to anticipate this change, and subsequently failed to renew the old code to leverage support for El Capitan...

15.1K Messages

 •

195.8K Points

Elements 11 is about 3 years obsolete. Elements 14 is the current version.
No, Occam's Razor still says that the bug is in the OS code, and Apple is responsible for fixing Apple's code.
No, what I stated implies that the bug is in Apple's code. Software developers can't really anticipate OS bugs several years before the OS bugs are introduced.

18 Messages

 •

250 Points

so your stand is that since your years old software stopped working on a new os release, there is a bug in the new os? Laughable. The only bug that is plain to see is that Adobe stopped caring for a product that I bought not even two years back, dropping support for the latest OS that everyone's got. That means no more money rolling your way from me...

Hi Chris-

If Photoshop Elements 11 is obsolete then please remind your sales team to update the App Store offering.

The current version in Apple's app store is Elements 13. Elements 14 came out a few weeks ago and hasn't yet been posted in the app store. I can't even find Elements 11 in the app store anymore. (the only mention of Elements 11 in the app store is for a third party tutorial video)

PSE 11 is not able to save since I have upgraded to El Capitan.

What is the likelihood of a fix?

FYI i purchased this from the app store.

18 Messages

Slim to none? They have moved on, so I guess Elements 11 is no longer supported. I bought it from app store not that long ago, and if that's the shelf life of their products, I will never again pay any money for something that I can have supported only months from purchase!

Have you guys tried creating a new admin user account to eliminate the possibility it's permissions/damaged user account?

Try creating a new Admin user account and run Elements from the new user account to see if the problem goes away: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/201...

Same issue here! This is unacceptable! I bought my PE 11 and throughout the years and all Apple upgrades it has been working just fine. Now, with El Capitan I simply can't work with it?!
I use it everyday in my work. Can someone from Adobe please help!?!? I have reported this to Apple as well.
Both Adobe and Apple should be aligned on what they do! We're customers, we shouldn't be going through this problem of compatibility between sides!
And no, I'm not spending any extra money in a PS Elements upgrade.

Doesn't seem that Adobe are paying much attention to here either as the forum seems to be the only available support for this issue.
