Elements 10: Error when converting Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 catalog

I proved the solution described in cpsid_87065 (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/870/cpsid_87..., but when I clicked the "Convert" button, it's says me that the catalog must be repaired with the software I used to create it (i.e. Photoshop Album Starter 3.2), but it does'nt exist a function to repair it.

Note: I used for the conversion the Photoshop Elements 10 (cpsid_87065 refer to Photoshop Elements 9 ...)

What can I do ? Thanks for an answer !

Charles

Please ensure that the following documents have been reviewed when converting a catalog to the latest version of Photoshop Elements:

Our engineers have put together a blog about how to find database entries in your catalog that may be corrupt and prevent a conversion from completing successfully.

Please see that Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 is not opened while converting the catalog.

Let us know if making sure that Album Starter Edition 3.2 is not running prior to trying to open the catalog to convert it in Elements 10. Thx.

Thanks for your answers. But still yesterday I tried to convert the catalog without to open Album Starter Edition. To be sure, I try again today and the programm says again, after it indicates a percentuale of conversion of 1%, that the catalog must be repaired with the software I used to create it.

Any other idea to solve my problem ?

I'd have to check with some other folks. I'm not as familiar with Starter Edition as I am with other Adobe products.

One other question, if you launch Starter Edition, it doesn't give any errors about it's catalog?

Thanks for your interess Jeffrey !

No, Starter Edition doesn't give me any errors nor any foto to reconnect. But I must precisate that I did import my catalog converting, without problems, the catalog (of about 8000 fotos) that I created with the further software Adobe Photoshop Album 1.0.

Perhaps the problem is that the catalogs of Photoshop Album and Starter Edition are files with the extension "psa" while the catalogs of Photoshop Elements 10 are files with the extension "pse". Some people in the net say that it would be necessary prior to convert the catalogs with Photoshop Elements 5, but I don't find it on the web.

What do you think about ?

You are correct about the different catalog formats between Photoshop Album and Photoshop Elements prior version 5 using the PSA format, and now we use PSE. Each uses a different databasing technology, but that is not the source of your problem.

Could you send me the PSA file so I can see if we can convert/repair it for you? bnemecek [AT] adobe [DOT] com.

We were able to get the catalog repaired and sent back. The problem had to do with duplicate file entries. We aren't sure how these duplicate entries happened, but the matter has been cleared up manually.

Hello Brett,

Thanks a lot, you're great! You have solved my problem, the conversion worked perfectly. I was about to leave Adobe for another photos software, but thanks to you, yesterday I bought a license for Photoshop Elements 10!

I hope I can still count on you in future if I should have other problems with Adobe softwares.

Best regards

have around 15000 photos in a catalog in photoshop album 1.0.

want to move top a new PC with windows 7 and elements 10

when i try to convert the catalog it reaches around 16% and then gives me an error asking me to repair the catalog with the original software..problem is there is no repair option in album 1.0 the original catalog file is a .psa file

i had thought the convert option would work seamlessly but now am stuck..

Brett,
It seems that you helped others. I totaly got lost in the process and need help. Used Adobe Photoshop Album full version V2 for the last 10 years on an XP PC. Just bought and installed Elements 11 on a Windows 7 PC. Despite all help files I can’t Convert the Catalog.
1: First copied the Catalog to the new PC in a new folder and tried to Convert; In the middle of the process I got error message
2: I decided to use the Backup feature on PS Album, validated that the file is OK, performed repair before and decided to use the Backup feature. Installed on new PC and tried Recover; Recover worked however Convert failed again with the same error. I now spent days with no better resolts

After following all the process on this site I still was not able to convert the file. I sent the file to Brett and Adobe’s engineering team was able to locate 4 corrupted files within the catalog and identify them to me. I deleted those files and from that moment everything worked OK. Great service!

When I converted the file on the new Windows 7 computer I obviously ended up with multiple “Disconnects”. As oppose to reconect manually and spend many hours, I followed an advice I found on the Wed regarding opening the Adobe Photo Album catalog file with Microsoft Access and change all the file locations. It worked great and saved me a lot of time. All OK now.

Hi,
I am trying to convert a Adobe photoshop Album 1.0 to PSE and have the same problem listed above. The conversion fails after about 5%. Would it be possible for you to take a look at the catalog?

Brett- Everything now works and we just bought the full version of Elements 11. Thank you SO much for helping us convert, we couldn't have done it without you and your team. It's great to see that at least one large technology company still cares about customer service.

I too have a problem similar to the previous comments on this thread. I have adobe photoshop starter edition 3.2 on an old computer, and bought a new windows 8 computer, and was hoping to transfer the albums. I have downloaded Elements 11.0, but when I try to convert the old catalog, it stops after 9% with error the same as others have posted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
