Cannot Add New Place in Elements Organizer 14

I have not been able to Add a New Place in Elements Organizer 14 for several weeks. When I click the New Place icon, the Add New Place window opens but with only a single small map tile displayed. When I insert a place name (e.g. Leconfield) a longer description appears (Leconfield, Beverley HU17, UK). But nothing happens when I click the Search button.

Hi Michael,

The error in the Places view is a result of Google Maps changing how map data is delivered to applications such as Photoshop Elements. We are aware of the issue and are exploring possible solutions.

Sandeep

Michael,
A quick note:   I am a champion and haven't received some of these lately, as was a little busy.  No longer busy, send a few my way.   I will do what I can with them.   This topic is interesting.  All of us will see future changes.

Sandeep Singh,
Oh I'm sorry, I meant the above for Sandeep, not Michael.  I'm not so busy now.   I can take a few of these questions and forums now, if you'll send them to me.

I am pleased that it just not me with the problem!

Presumably, as the problem stems from a change initiated by Google Maps, upgrading to the latest version of Photoshop Elements is not going to solve the problem. I wonder if the full version of Photoshop has the same issue.

This problem does not happen with the current PSE15.

Now that's a useful piece of information, Michael. I think you might have solved my problem. Don't think I'm ready yet to go to the full version of Photoshop and Lightroom.

So the "Google" problem was fixed in PSE15 but somehow the fix does not work in previous versions of PSE.  Very disappointing information.  This seems to indicate that Adobe made the fix and did not apply it to older versions of PSE!

I guess Adobe is not going to do anything about this!  Going to have to go to some other organizer for photos.

Adobe's response of  " We are aware of the issue and are exploring possible solutions."IsTotal BS. If they have it fixed in PSE 15, they know what the solution is and can fix it in other versions of PSE, but choose NOT TO FIX IT.

Completely agree!  Planned obsolescence!  They may even have been the cause of the problem!

I agree too! Why don't they fix the problem on PSE 13 ?

Because they only ever fix the current version. They won't rewrite the code for PSE11, 12, 13 and 14.
Note that nothing was changed in the code of versions 11 to 14. Google apbruptly changed their software so that older versions stopped working. Some do think it's a conspiracy by Google to help Adobe make more money on selling new versions...
It happens that the change occurred af the end of the life of version 15, which fortunately was based on more recent Google APIs.

By that time I suggested a workaround which proved to be effective. Have a look into the Elements user to user forum.
You had to download the trial version of Elements 15 (now PSE 2018) which works well with Google Maps. The trial versions 15 or 18 are still active after 30 days, contrary to the editor. The trick is to set the PSE14 or older editor as an external editor. To allow this, you have to create a copy of the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe file in the same folder to fool the organizer.

That said, the organizer 15 or 2018 versions are big improvements over older versions, why not take advantage of this for free?

New user to PSE 14, would you mind doing a step by step on how to make PSE 14 the external editor and how to use PSE 2018 with PSE 14

William,
This has been discussed in that Elements user to user forum thread (post Nr 75).
https://forums.adobe.com/message/9945319?tstart=0#9945319
Unfortunately, my suggestion assumed that a trial version of version 15 or newer organizer could be used together with the PSE14 editor after the 30 days period. Well, I did try and wait after the 30 days. The solution did work...
Unfortunately, later on, it ceased to work. !!!!!
It has been suggested that it can work provided you only use the organizer after the installation of the trial... I don't know.
What is always working is to use an organizer version and to assign an older editor version as the external editor. Since you can't point to the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the editor folder, you have to create a duplicate with another name.

Thanks Michel, I started to just buy PSE 2018 but thought better of it since Adobe is not willing to fix issues with one version, they probably aren't going to do anything about issues I find with the newer versions.  Probably will just give Pixelmator my hard earned dollars.
