Lightroom Mobile: iOS - missing gps location data in exported photos

Hello,

I use Lightroom on iOS for taking photos. Overall happy, but I'm facing issue, that when I export photos to JPG, the GPS location metadata is missing in exported files.

I've checked all the export settings - Location Info is turned on in all places where I could find it - NO EFFECT

I've tried all the export options: Share to..., Export to Files, Export as... - NO EFFECT

When I export photos as Original, DNG files DO INCLUDE GPS location metadata; just exported JPG files do not.

App is updated to the last version: 6.2.1 BD60B6/34

Please advise, how to export photos from Lightroom to JPG format with GPS metadata.

Thank you

Hi,

thank you for contacting us.
The images that you are using, what kind of images are they?
Where do they come from?

Just clarifying unless it's clear the location info setting is sticky per sharing type.
Meaning if it's on for Share to..., it won't be on for e.g. Export to Files.

Thanks,
Ignacio

Hi Ignacio,

thanks for reply.

I use solely Lightroom app camera for taking photos, no imports. All the photos have been captured by Lightroom.

Understand the settings "stickiness", that make sense. Just wanted to stress out, that I've tried all the options I could find (but without desired result).

Thank you

Ok, thanks for clarifying.

Can you enter the Lightroom app camera, tap on the gear icon to open settings and verify that the GeoTag Photos setting is on?

Thanks,
Ignacio

Thanks for instructions; I haven't found any such settings in the gear-icon menu - where exactly it should be please?

Thanks

With the camera activated, click on the vertical tri-dot icon at the top right of the screen, then you should see the gear icon.

I see, thanks, was looking in the main gear - icon menu.

The GeoTag Photos option is checked. Photos I'm trying to export have the GPS location data - when I export it as original (DNG), the GPS is data is present.

I don't have any such problems when exporting from my iPhone8+, when enabled in the export settings the GPS data is always included in the exported file. However, no location data, e.g. City, Country, etc. is included as I assume that LrMobile doesn't have the address look-up feature that Lightroom Desktop, LrWeb and Lightroom Classic all have. So if I import the exported jpeg back into the LR system I will see the results of the address look-up shown there.

All I can suggest is that you double-check the export settings, though I'm sure you've already done that.

@JanNemec how do you verify that the GPS info is not added to the images?

Hi Jim, thanks for contribution. I have iPhone 7, yours is not that much different, so good to know, that it works. Could I ask you which OS version you have?

@Ignacio_B I'm mainly using exiftool, but tried also FastStone and also Mac OS Finder shows that in Get Info (Latitude, Longitude), have tried also some online tools. Result is the same..

Thank you

Just curious if you indeed have an issue on your device only or if any other app is in between exporting and receiving on your machine and possibly touching the location data.

There are several free metadata apps on iOS that you can verify if the location info breaks directly from the Share Sheet to one of those apps.
