Uploading Directly to the Cloud
I’ve been using Lightroom Web to upload tens of thousands of photos to the cloud in large batches, mainly because there isn’t room on my OS drive where Lightroom Desktop resides to make copies first, then upload. Even if I have “keep a copy on the local drive” turned off, it still has to copy the photos to the drive before uploading, right? Or is it a direct upload to the cloud?

Regardless of whether you just have them initially stored locally or not, keep in mind that also in Preferences>Local Storage you can change the storage location for originals to an external hard drive - it doesn't have to be the drive that the software itself is installed on. This might be a better alternative than regularly borrowing that iMac.
