Lightroom: How to identify pictures not assigned to an album?

I have already uploaded 12k pics into the cloud, mainly by importing Classic catalog exports. I assigned most of the imported pics to an album, but I'm struggling identifying the orphains who remain unassigned and do not belong to an album. I might miss a function, but cannot find anything in the support files.
Having this said, the filter function deserves a significant update to eliminate these uncertanties.

Thanks
Torsten

This feature was released in Lightroom CC 2.2 launched yesterday.

In the search bar type: "Album: Not in any album"

I have tested this new feature and it does not work. The search string "Album: Not in any album" returns false results, that is: It shows pictures that definitely are in an album. But it does not show the pictures that I have removed from all albums (for the purpose of testing this new feature). This is not the software quality I expect from Adobe.

It works, you just have to type "Not in any album".

It then shows all pictures that are not in any album.

However it is no help if your intent is to exclude an existing album from your search.

@Scu Are you using the desktop app in english locale? Non-english versions would be using a localized version of the string "Not in any album". Could you share a screenshot of the search bar state when it doesn't work for you?
It is supposed to look something like this:

Thank you for the hint, Ankur Murarka. Actually, I am using the German version of Lightroom CC. It was a bit of guess work, but I found that the German search string is "in keinem Album". With this string, the search works faultlessly! I am so happy!
Another question: is there a list of German search strings? Where could I look them up?

I am trying this search filter on mobile and it does not work. Does it only work on desktop?

Yes, it only works on desktop as of now.

I agree.  For what the filter is I like it.  But, it is lacking many features.  I'm a bit reluctant to upload my 14k pic.
How does CC perform with 12k pictures uploaded?

CC performance with 12k pictures is still very good (and my DSL connection is pretty weak, i.e. 4-5 Mbit).
For me as a "non-pro" CC is what I have been waiting for. Seamless synch of all my edited pictures to all my devices, including the family and the ability to share without limitations. Brilliant! iPhone, iPad, Apple TV ...
But CC needs urgently better features to handle volumes > 2-3k pictures. I have to upload another 15k and I'm considering to wait until I can reliably control what is where in my cloud space.

Thanks for the feedback, Torsten. This would be a good feature suggestion for the Ideas section.

Can you change this to an Idea (FR) Julie? As I’d like to piggy back off the back of it and suggest that also you should be able to see what Album(s) a Photo is in, by way of the info palette.

I have just logged this as an idea. Feel free to piggy back :-)

I use flags. Basically, I flag all pictures that are in an album. If I then filter on non-flagged pictures, I get all pictures not yet in an album.

Hi Kathryn

Can you please share what the search bar looks like?

Do you get a suggestion list with entry saying "Not in any album" when you type "not in any album" (without the quotes) in the search bar? If yes, do you get what you are looking for when you select that entry?

It is working using the suggestion list... must have been something in the way I typed it...
Thanks for your help Ankur Murarka
