Not a problem

Lightroom Desktop: "Some photos were not added" error

LR CC is now refusing to import photos with "Some photos were not added" error. I am importing right from connected camera, but downloading first to computer and then importing resulted in the same error message.

I already imported like thousands of photos from the same camera, dunno what happened Lightroom changed its mind.

I've passed this on to engineering for evaluation of the log. Please leave it posted for a while yet.

The log points to a problem with the image file. Any chance we can get one of those who fail?

I should still have them info my camera, will share a link, I have your email address somewhere.

Just to note, it worked correctly through my phone. I downloaded pictures from computer to my phone SD card, imported then to LR mobile and it worked there.

I sent you a link with those pictures on OneDrive. Found them still being in my phone, so I just uploaded them to OneDrive from that phone and not downloaded them from camera again. Thus that should be exact same image files that caused this error.

I got them. They won't load for me either. Will share with the engineering team.

I was mistaken. The entire set imported correctly - it was only the shortcut link in your download group that failed. I am not able to reproduce. If it happens again, make note of every step from the camera capture to import attempt. I suspect we are missing something.

I already celebrated "it is not only me" situation :D

The scenario was:

I connected my camera to my PC via USB cable as usual. Clicked import, selected new taken pictures and finished import. The progress bar in the top left corner did not move at all and it ended up with this error message. Tried restart camera, LR, still the same error. So I thought I might have faulty cable and tried to copy those files from camera to my Windows desktop. Transfer worked, all files were copied to my desktop, pictures had thumbnails, I could open them in in-built Windows 10 photo viewer. So I tried to import them into LR again, this time from the desktop. Still the same error. Since my desktop is automatically being backed up to OneDrive, I opened the  OneDrive on my phone, browsed to Desktop, selected those pictures, picked share to: "Ad To Lr" and voilà, pictures were correctly imported via Lr mobile. Those same pictures.

New photos are being imported correctly, also those problematic pictures are being imported correctly now even directly from the camera.

I would be suspicious of a hardware component based on this.  Camera? Card? Cable? Something is going amiss.  Generally I recommend never to connect a camera direct to the PC as it has been traditionally problematic. I recommend using a reader.  I wonder if that will work with these files.

Rikk, you can mark it as Not a problem. It happened again today and I noticed the Windows explorer was stuck sy the same time, so the problem is probably there. Windows 1909 are terrible build when it comes to explorer stability :(

The least the team could do when an error occurs when adding files is giving useful context to users: 
- why did the specific file fail to import? File format? Corruption? Etc.
- where was the file? Listing only the filename when dealing with massive imports is infuriatingly useless, many large directories may have files with identical names.
- allow users to copy the list of files which failed to import instead of just displaying in a way that prevents any text copy, this would allow users to easily copy the file names and figure out what went wrong or convert them to a different format prior to import

I understand that in this specific case the files were not importable, but in my own experience importing 250,000+ files into Lightroom, it's been a mystery meat situation whether or not I lost data during the import process. This makes it very difficult for me to decide whether or not to delete the photos I imported from their original storage.
