Lightroom Desktop: Import error: Files could not be downloaded (NAS)
I have been using Lightroom for a few weeks. I recently changed my storage location for originals to a NAS and opted to keep all Smart Previews locally. Since I made that change, I can no longer import images from my SD card. This is what the error looks like:

If I first import the images onto my local SSD, I am able to then successfully import them into Lightroom. The problem appears to be unique to a situation where I attempt to directly import images from the SD card. The SD card has not changed since the last successful import and nor has my camera. I tried formatting the card in the camera, but that did not work either.
The logs imply that this is some kind of permissions issue:
default 16:30:20.275990+0100 Adobe Lightroom P4120150.ORF | Download Complete
default 16:30:20.276175+0100 Adobe Lightroom ERROR: requestDownloadFile returned Error Domain=com.apple.ImageCaptureCore Code=-9912 "(null)"
I also found this:
Sandbox: MassStorageCamer(33026) System Policy: deny(1) file-write-create /Volumes/AMC/Lightroom CC/808ecb51935146dfaa0b42631173c2a0/temp/Import/Temporary download 233E45B7-BC5F-4B69-9AEC-AFF7C8C26913/.tmp_P4120003.ORF_
However, it is not a permissions issue that I can easily rectify. I successfully performed `chmod -R 777 /Volumes/AMC/Lightroom CC` in an attempt to fix filesystem permissions. The permissions changed, but it did not fix the problem.
Running Lightroom v3.2 on macOS Catalina.

However, in spite of that, I think the answer is that Lightroom does have access to the NAS. It migrated all of my images there from my local disk. Moreover, I am able to read and edit the images already in my library. Is Lightroom using Adobe Bridge on the backend?
Perhaps most interestingly, I have discovered that I am able to import directly from the SD card if I select "Browse" in Lightroom then navigating through my filesystem to select the images on the SD card manually. It only fails when I select the SD card under "Connected Devices" and try to import that way.
Lightroom does see my images when I try to import them via "Connected Devices". I know this, because I can see all the previews before I hit import. In any case, this strongly suggests to me that it is a bug in Lightroom rather than a permissions issue.

- Lightroom appears able to fully access the NAS as normal when copying a library to it, reading from it or importing new files to it if done via the Browse folder method.
- Lightroom is unable to access the NAS correctly when importing via the "Connected Devices" import preview
- When I delete an image in Lightroom, the image is not deleted from the NAS
I have tested this both over wifi and ethernet, and via afp and smb, as well as with a new local Mac admin user and a new NAS user. LR has full disk access in System Preferences. Lightroom Classic is able to import fine.It seems like there is some sort of permission issue going on, but given Lightroom can access the NAS in some situations, it isn't simple to work out. It could simply be a LR bug recently introduced.
I've noticed that I am unable to change any user permissions when using Get Info on any NAS folders. It currently shows as "everyone" has "no access" which doesn't seem right, and no matter what I do I can't change the folder permissions, so I suspect that's either just how Macs handle network drives or this is part of the problem.

Want to jump in here since I have the exact same issue. I can't import from an attached device (in my case a Fujifilm X-Pro3 connected via USB to USB-C cabel to a MBP) as long as the "store originals" option points to my NAS.
I can import pictures that are on my mac perfectly fine.
One workaround that lets me import photos again is
Now I can at least import again. Just disabling "store originals" doesn't help as long as my mac is still connected to the NAS.
If you could help me out where to find the logfile I can check if I have the same entries.
