Lightroom Desktop: GPS info lost when roundtripping to Photoshop

I choose a photo in Apple Photos 6.0, select Edit with > Adobe Photoshop 2021, do the edit and save the photo. > The edited image is still tagged with geo location data when it is saved back in Apple Photos.

I choose the same photo in Apple Photos 6.0, select Edit with > Adobe Lightroom, do the edit, export the photo, import the photo in Apple Photos. > The image does not contain any geo location data anymore.

In Lightroom, under "Info", the fields for Location, City, State/Province and Country are empty.

It's frustrating. Because I edited many photos already and just realised, that the location information gets lost. I like editing with lighroom, but if this software is not able to get all the meta data of a photo, then it is not a professional software for photo editing.

I think, I can not use "Edith with" of Apple Photos to edit the image in Lightroom, if I want to keep GPS data. The data gets lost during this process. Strange, that it works with Photoshop.

When I export the image in Apple Photos first, the data does not get lost in Lightroom when importing the photo.

Looks like I have to work this way. Alternatively, I import the photos on my iPhone to Lightroom and edit on mobile or desktop version.

@Ralph Haering You wrote: "but if this software is not able to get all the meta data of a photo, then it is not a professional software for photo editing." Correct. Photoshop is the Professional program for photo editing.

@DGrainger I know many photographers who are using Lightroom for editing. But many are not so happy anymore with the newest versions of Lightroom. Adobe discarded many functions, they say.

I work in publishing and I use Photoshop a lot, but mainly for work.  But I do also a lot of photography with my mobile phone (in my private life) and I really like Lightroom on my device. Especially the tons of presets I have and use. So, with Lightroom, I am able to pimp my private photos very fast and streamlined. I don't use the 'tank' to shoot the bird :-)

I don't know who's fault it is, that the meta data of the location does not get into Lightroom. Maybe Photos, which does not pass the information. Maybe Lightroom, which does not read the information.

" Adobe discarded many functions, they say. "

It sounds like you may be using the wrong version of Lightroom.  Lightroom Classic works as you describe and it works with Lightroom Mobile.

I think, I understand now. I just compared on the Adobe website. I thought, the cloud version (which I am using), is newer and has more functions (I never used Lightroom Classic before). But looks like, the "CC" version is the light version. Anyway... installed now both.
