Lightroom Desktop: All edits done, lost.

I edited a photo yesterday. I open Lightroom today, and all the edits are gone.

More details, please!

What we have so far is like one were to park at the curb, out of sight, then go into a mechanic's shop and say only "my car is not working."

I am sorry to hear about the difficulties.

After editing, did you move to another image or did you close the app while still on the edit screen for the image that lost its edits?

@Drazen

There are two issues at play here.

  1. There is a bug in the current version where quitting while in the edit screen fails to commit the edits to the image and sync them to the cloud. The workaround for this is to select another image or go to grid and unselect the image - either of which will force the edit commit and initiate a cloud sync.
  2. You are using LIghtroom in an atypical manner. LIghtroom is not designed as a one image editor - meaning you don't typically open a single image, edit, and then delete the image. Lightroom is designed as a catalog and editing tool. Using it in this manner will likely cause unexpected issues as it is an unexpected use case.

Until the bug is fixed, please use the workarounds in step 1 to ensure saving of your edits between sessions.

@Drazen  you wrote "Well, if the car is not working, then I can't bring it over to the mechanic. And I'm not a mechanic myself, to know what's wrong."

Sorry, didn't make myself clear!  What I was trying to convey was that specifics about the components and model of your computer would be very helpful in order to try to assist you in figuring this out.

Also, you wrote "I'm not supposed to click Save after editing a photo, do I?"

The answer is YES, because if you do not save, then the version of the file that was on storage is not updated with your edits.

Using the latest Lightroom (Cloud) on M1 Mac and when I edit a photo, my edit-changes are not saved when I quit Lightroom after editing... I have to select second picture after editing the first one, then changes get saved for the first (can replicate this anytime). Is this a known problem?

I was performing some edits this morning which were then lost.

The only thing I was doing differently from my usual workflow was adding these photos to two albums instead of one.

It happened again this afternoon, I pasted edit settings to a picture and flagged as picked. I then went to the album, filtered for picked photos and the edits were not there.

Jegliche Bearbeitung meiner Fotos wird nicht mehr gespeichert. Ich muss immer wieder neu beginnen. Woran liegt das?

Google Translate:

Any editing of my photos will no longer be saved. I always have to start over. Why is that?

I'm no whiz on technology and I hope I'm doing something wrong.

Lately after I take the time to edit a photo, save it to my computer and then go back to LR an hour or so (sometimes a day) later, it's the original photo.  Like, with no editing done.

So, if I wanted to touch up the edited photo in the future, I'd have to start all over with the original.

Anyone else having this situation that could offer a little help?  Thanks!

Since an update recently, if I step off of a picture to move on to the next one, my edits on the prior picture will disappear!  This has never been an issue before.

Hi, I have been having an issue with my edits being lost when I finish working on one image and move on to the next one. It doesn't happen every single time but most of the time. I have now made a habit of copying my settings every time before I move on and then going back to the image to check if the edits were lost. Then I paste them and try move on again. This doesn't work for brush and spot edits however, and it really is a pain to keep on doing this.

I should note this has nothing to do with closing Lightroom or force quitting - the edits are lost as soon as I move on to the next image.

I know others have complained of the same thing - do you have a solution yet? Please guys, this is kind of a deal breaker for subscribing to Lightroom...

Thanks and regards

Martin

Hello all,

Thankfully this hasn't caused much of a problem for me so far, but I'd like to know if this is a bug or potential user-error.

I haven't used lightroom cloud desktop before today, but I am very familiar with the desktop classic version of LR.

Problem: After I went online, I lost edits to the photos I added to library.

How it started: I was offline when I added photos to the LR library to a new album via usb from my camera. I made a couple of very basic edits to correct the images. My desktop monitor is garbage, so I've been double checking all of my edits on my iPhone as well. I noticed that new album photos weren't synced up and realized my desktop was offline. I went online, and a couple seconds after LR cloud reconnected to the server, all the thumbnails i could see in grid view reverted to their original pre-edit. I can't see a way to restore them, and

I haven't had this issue before, and I'm glad I didn't invest any substantial time into those edits - it was just a handful of photos. I've never had an issue like this in the classic version, so I don't know if there was a step I should have taken before going online to preserve the edits.

Thanks for any advice in advance :)

I've been loosing my mind thinking it's on my end, but apparently it is a well known bug.

What happens:

I edit a photo, go on the next one, few more, then I go back and the edits are completely lost! Sometimes I spend lots of time on an image only to find the edits got reset at some point. I must say I don't quit the app and don't even move to a new album, I stay in the current one and this issue happens quite a lot! Every time I edit photos actually.

It is about time for this issue to be resolved.

What is the current status?

Updates to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products for Desktop, Mobile and Web were released today and contain a fix for this issue.

Please refresh your Creative Cloud application and install your update when it becomes available. Thank you for your patience.
