Solved

Lightroom Desktop 3.3: Changes aren't saved between sessions, can't import laptop is closed and reopened, etc.

The latest version, 3.3, is very problematic, please help. I use Mac OS 10.15.5. I did a re-install, but only a copy/paste error I had is now gone. Still, these errors occur:

  • Many times changes are not saved when closing LR and starting up again. The photo shows the original, the whole edit is gone, so I have to start all over again.
  • If I leave LR open and close my laptop for a while and then start using LR again, importing new photos is not possible. Top left shows it’s waiting for the harddisk to check available space...forever! Then it’s also impossible to close LR, so I need to Force Quit LR every time
  • When importing a photo it does not appear in the "dock" below like in the previous version. Now, first you have to go to 'My photos' and click on 'All photos'. This slows down my workflow substantially. Can this be fixed?

Same here, last update seems really unstable for me on MacOS.

Yeah, a real pity. And I don't get it why Adobe is quite about this. No reaction, no solutions...

Much of Adobe US is on shutdown. They're back in the office Monday but will probably take a little while to catch up.

Victoria, the latest version did not solve anything. Please, when can we get some kind of decent update?

If you click on the cloud sync icon when it's being problematic, does it show that it's connected and syncing ok? The only time I've seen settings not sticking was in an "unable to connect" state.

The Cloud activity icon (that's what it's called in Dutch)? All looks good. Right now, I am having a similar issue: yesterday I opened one image, edited it, closed my laptop, started editing today, clicked on 'All Photo's' to see the whole library, but it won't open, I am only seeing this circle waiting to process something, but it's taking 15 minutes now, so I don't think it will even stop. Quiting LR does not work, I have to forcequite. And when re-opening LR, changes I made to the image are all gone....

I have the same problem here. It's unusable. I hope they fix it soon or I'll need to migrate to a different software.

I have had the same problem on Windows 10.0 for 2 weeks now. Even uninstalling LR 3.3 and installing previous versions does not fix the issue. Any news?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Another bad update Lightroom!.

None of the problems I addressed earlier were solved in version, 3.4! Adobe, do you care at all?
  • Many times changes are not saved when closing LR and starting up again. The photo shows the original, the whole edit is gone, so I have to start all over again.

I use Mac OS 10.15.6.

Item 1 sounds like a system specific issue. Are you committing the changes by moving to a different image before closing down Lightroom?

Item 2 on your list is scheduled for the next release.

Item 3 I am having trouble understanding. Can you provide a video showing the behavior you are seeing ?

Yes, same here, its caused by Macbook sleep/unsleep cycle. New LR is buggy after closing and reopening Macbook for me too.

Thanks for your reply Rikk! Great to hear Item 2 will be solved. About Item 1: I am not sure, I will check it. Moving to another image is essential? About Item 3: it's hard to explain with a video I think. Before the update to version 3.3, the opened RAF file appeared straight in the image dock in the bottom of the screen together with all other images. So it was very easy to quickly start copy/paste the settings. Now, if I open a RAF file, only this image appears in the dock. To be able to see all pictures, I need to go to 'My Photos', click on 'All Photos' and search for the most recently added picture. For me, it slows down my workflow and I can't see why it needed a change from version 3.3.

Same problem, changes aren't saved. There's no way for the user to take responsibility for saving it themselves (think in a text document, if your software fails to save, you copy-paste the whole thing, saving your thesis). The more such power away from the user, the more you have to make sure that the software actually works. This is core functionality, not a "nice to have" or "feature request." This is a critical bug because it prevents your users from being able to save their work. If the user cannot save their work, then your software has no purpose.

Update: my initial testing indicates that Lightroom 4.0 has FINALLY fixed this. Anyone else?
