Lightroom CC: Ability to change EXIF capture date/time

I am first time user of Adobe Lightroom, so Lightroom CC is a fresh start to me. So I imported my photos I stored locally but some of them were imported without capture date/time and file creation was used instead. Not a big deal in case of like 20 pictures. I could fix this manually but in fact I can NOT. Capture date/time is not editable. WTF? Please fix this very, very soon! Thanks.

You'll be pleased to know this was implemented in the Windows/Mac versions of Lightroom CC in this week's version 1.1 release!

Thanks for the great suggestion! It helps to know how our customers want to use the software. I'll change your post to an Idea so this gets logged as a feature request.

In the mean time check out the update to Lightroom Classic. It has the features you want with enhanced performance.

Cheers!

Thanks Rick! With more general users like me this will become wanted function I think. I chose Lightroom CC to be my virtual photo album and archive with many photos downloaded from others web albums and so - without EXIF at all.

And also I do not have Lightroom Classic since it is not part of the paid plan.

You could even do this with Adobe Revel so hopefully will come to LrCC soon.

Yes... definitely need this in Lightroom CC for all my old scanned in paper photos.

I was just trying the new version, which seems very nice and the interface has finally become intelligible, compared to the traditional Lightroom CC (classic) interface, which is completely different from any other UI. But then... I start discovering that basic things as editing capture dates are not available anymore. Really? So I do need to switch back to Classic? This can't be true. I am really disappointed.

Yep, that's not there yet. This comparison might help you identify your essential features: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/lightroom-cc-vs-classic-features/

It's also critical when you have incorrect time set up in your camera. Or when you import pictures from two or more devices with time not in sync, typically on group vacations. Come on guys, even Microsoft Essentials Photo Gallery could do this!

Some of my library has missing capture times, so I need to be able to edit that information in Lightroom CC.

100% agreed, this is driving me mad as I have a ton of photos that are now out of sync in my timeline somehow.

Definitely hope these basic file management issues are added on a coming update.

Just migrated a catalogue and one of the albums is out by a year (my fault). Is there any way to change it? Say if I download the files locally and edit the EXIF on the files directly in Finder?

good question. Until LRCC has this function, I'd assume one could download all 'offending' pics and vids change their dates using a 3rd party tool. then reupload the photos/vids.

Has anyone tried this yet?

This is something I really need too!!!
In LR Classic I could store the pictures in separate folders (by year/month in my case), but now I always have hundred of pic/videos with wrong date (e.g. year 2027) on top of the timeline view!!!!

Same to me. Date/Time correction ist absolutly necessary an not a great thing to implementate.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom CC: Ability to add a capture date.

I like that Lightroom CC automatically sorts photos by capture date. However, I have almost 700 photos in my library that have no capture date and I can't seem to add a date to those photos. I also have a few scanned photos that have the wrong date attached and I can't modify those dates either. I don't know that it's possible to do that with this version; if not, that's a feature I'd really like to see with the next update.

This is a mandatory feature for a product that is intended to be the ultimate database for all our photos!  I'm a bit shocked that it is missing, to be honest.

I, too, have just recently subscribed to the CC Photography plan and am new to Lightroom.  But from what I've read, it seems to me like you really need to add back the whole Metadata menu / feature set that was in Classic.  As I mentioned above, if we're really going to hand over control of our entire photo library to Lightroom CC (including uploading directly from the camera), it has to be able to format every image properly, including EXIF data.
