Importing photos to Lightroom CC

I can't import photos directly to Lightroom CC. I always get an error (see screen capture). The only way to get pictures in CC is to import them first in Classic, then adding them to a collection and finally synchronise with CC. Even when the photos are not imported in Classic, I cannot download them to CC. Permissions on all files are set to "Read and Write". What is going wrong? Thanks for any suggestion that would help.

It does look like a folder permissions problem. In LR CC's Preferences > Local Storage, is your storage location set to the default or a custom location?

The error is a bit confusing, because first it says that it can't create a directory (a folder) and then it talks about permissions for files. What it probably means is that it can't create a folder called '2018' due to permissions problems. Did you change the location where Lightroom CC stores images in 'Preferences - Local Storage'? If so, make sure that this folder has read & write permissions.

Indeed, I changed the storage location for originals to an external hard drive. In preferences I changed that location to the original one and now I can import files directly to Lichtroom CC. However, I must reaffirm that the permissions of all files were set the right way. So I wonder why I can't use an external hard drive. In each case, thanks to Mrs Brampton and Mr. Elzenga for their fast reply.

What's the format of the external hard drive? If you try to move it back to the external hard drive again now, does it work?

The drive is formatted "Mac OS Extended (journaled)" with a capacity of 5TB, available space: 4,83 TB. I changed the location again to this drive and I got the error "Unable to create directory, no permissions to save the files in the folder "2018". I controlled the permissions and they are all set to read and write. I even allowed file sharing in Mac Preferences, but nothing helps....

Use ‘Get info’ on the external disk and look all the way at the bottom. Do you see a checkbox ‘Ignore ownership of this volume’? If so, make sure this is checked.

The "ignore ownership on this volume" box  is checked already since I installed this disk. It doesn't help. Anyway, thank you for your help.

Can you show a screenshot of the disk permissions?
