Process Versions

What improvements would you be suggesting on the raw conversions ?

Black frame subtraction on raw files that contains them. This will dramatically improves noise reduction. It is a shame adobe decided to ignore this valuable information in raw files unlike capture one which use this information and delivers clean noisless results in long exposures.

Don't take too much notice of the date. They have made continued improvements to Lightroom's editing tools, but they've just remained compatible with the 2012 process version, so they haven't needed to force upgrades.

I assume the blackframe would be there for long exposure nr...and the camera would take care of that in the camera before making the raw..no?

Yes for NR and no for camera processing. Its not being processed in the camera. It suppose to be done in the software level afterward. It's phase one digital back IQ280. I have spoken to phase one support about it and they said its simple to do in software level and adobe has access to the documentation on how to do it. But apparently Adobe don't do individual camera processing as I have been told. Its a shame.

maybe thats phase1; a review of online sources indicate the long exposure nr is applied to most cameras. If its not so for phase 1, and they expect it to be done in sw, so be it. but that also means that raw file is 2x the size (one for original and one for black frame). do you see 2x size increase in the phase 1 raw files with long exposure?

I don't know about PaseOne, but indeed most cameras will do the dark frame subtraction themselves, on the raw data. So if you shoot a long exposure with NR on, you will get a different raw file than if you turn NR off (unlike high ISO noise reduction, which is done in software and so affects only jpeg output). Lightroom doesn't need to do anything for that and a different Process Version would not change this.
