Photoshop/Lightroom: Message: “Verifying Adobe Lightroom Classic” with a loading bar that doesn’t load more than 20% on Catalina

I installed Catalina two days ago without knowing of all the issues, now neither Lightroom, Photoshop or Premiere will open at all. They were all recently updated to their most recent versions. Can I do anything besides trying to downgrade to Mojave?

There has been no remedy by Adobe. I am going to explore other platforms, can’t delay any longer...affecting my photography business

There are some issues on Catalina, but not opening at all is not one of them (at least as far as Lightroom goes). Does the CC app open? What happens when you try to open them?

I have the same issue. Just installed Catalina on a MacBook Pro 2018 with a new hard drive, and then installed Photoshop 2020  I have random problems either opening files (jpg files) or switching tabs between two jpg files. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't

The CC app does open. When I try opening, say, Lightroom, I get a pop up window with this message: “Verifying Adobe Lightroom Classic” with a loading bar that doesn’t load more than 20% and then nothing else happens.

Are you trying to install the new versions after the upgrade, or are you just launching the versions after upgrading?

Just trying to launch them. I was using the most recent versions without any problem but since upgrading the macOS, none of my Adobe apps launch.

We were using Catalina and LR 8.4.1 with no problems.  After updating to LR 9, my wife's computer stopped importing.  The Adobe tech rolled her computer back to 8.4.1 and everything works.  If you're using LR 9, try rolling back.  LR jreated a new catalog with a -2 suffix to use with LR 9.  The version 8 catalog should still be on your computer.

Before you try to uninstall Catalina (or anything else that'll take hours), try Onyx to rule out a corrupt cache or application state, instructions below (I was a Mac IT pro for 25 years, it works wonders)!

Download the free Onyx (https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html), select the Onyx version for your OS, (the Catalina version for Onyx is out). Download, run it, reboot.

In Onyx run almost everything in the Maintenance tab, deselecting things you may not want deleted, like Launch Services . Hit the "Options" button across from Internet and deselect more stuff like Cookies & Other Site Data, Browser History, Form Values, etc. (most of these are OFF by default). If you don’t know what something is, google it, or don’t run it, or ask me), then hit Run Tasks. After it's done it will ask for a reboot.

Also try to fix any directory damage by running Disk First Aid from Disk Utility: boot into Recovery Mode, (hold down Command-R when booting). When you're in Recovery Mode go to the Utilities menu and launch Disk Utility, say Repair Disk. When done go to Apple Menu for Startup disk and restart normally. If Disk Utility says it can't fix it, run Disk Warrior ($120), (https://www.alsoft.com) from an external boot drive, reboot.

Also just doing a "Safe Boot" can clear out caches (restart, hold down shift until you see "Safe Boot" on the screen, let it fully boot, then reboot normally.

Well that sounds great if one is a Mac IT pro, but if apple can't do better it is goodby for me.  I bought in to Apple because it is intuitive....for me.  Adobe is not but I can learn it. Do you know if I would have to buy all new Adobe programs if I managed to switch my photos to a PC?  And how could I do that. I have 35,000 photos in Lightroom now.

I used to manage PCs also, upon occasion. They used to be 100 times worse than Macs in almost every way, but they’ve gotten way better! They’re only like 10 times worse now. (Some studies showed IT depts spend 75% MORE time fixing Windows than MacOS)! It’s like blaming your doctor for cancer, it’s more complex than any single person CAN understand.

Margaret Kelley, stick with your Mac.  It's not Apple's fault. We've been running Catalina happily with everything but LR 9.  Adobe had I don't know how many months of beta versions of Catalina and one month of the official Catalina release to get it right.  Some on other boards have suggested Adobe rushed LR 9 to announce it at Adobe Max.  I'm sure Adobe will fix things, just be patient.
