opening lrcat file saved and updated in LR Classic CC 7.2 in LR 6 or LR CC 2015

Question

I recently updated my LR CC 2015 on my personal laptop to LR Classic CC 7.2 when prompted. I read about the program, it sounded better and I didnt think much of it. I took my catalogue home did some work and then came back to the office and tried to open it on the work desktop which runs LR 6 standalone... no dice. I tried another laptop with LR CC 2015 and it said the catalogue file was too new to open. ARGHH. I made a bunch of edits to over 15,000 images and now I can only open it on my personal laptop?! Is there a way to export the catalogue as an older lrcat file? or a plugin for LR 6 to open the new lrcat files? I tried to search around but there is no obvious thread on this issue. WHY make the catalogue files not openable or offer backwards compatibility?

Unfortunately not. The only thing you could do is select those images you edited in Classic and choose 'Metadata - Save Metadata to Files'. Then start Lightroom 6 with its old catalog and import those images. Your metadata and edits will now be imported as well, except those edits that Lightroom 6 does not understand (range mask is the only thing I can think of).

Why not just bring the LR software version forward on all your machines and run LR Classic on all of them.  Since it appears you have a license to 7.2 you can roll them all forward and then just sign in and out as required on the machines to use them.  You can have 2 active at once.  For example, if you have it active on 2 and need it active on a third, sign out of one and sign in to another.  This is what the license allows.
