Merge duplicate photos edited via Mobile with photos imported via Classic

Is there a way to bulk-merge duplicate images? Here’s my process for understanding:

1. Import 2mp versions to Mobile (iPad) from my DSLR to help save ipad storage space (ex. While on vacation away from a computer)
2. Edit said images on Mobile for sharing etc.
3. When I’m back home, import to Classic to backup the full-sized files
4. Create a Collection from the uploaded LR catalog folder & sync with Mobile

The original Mobile imports are NOT in any albums and ONLY show in “All Photos”. If I try to “add” to the synced collection from Classic, it does exactly that with NO attempt at merging the duplicate images.

To reiterate, is there a way to apply all the edits I did via Mobile to the newly synced duplicates in a bulk fashion instead of every single image?

I’ve added a screenshot via Mobile showing some duplicates in the synced folder from Classic after trying to “add” the edited versions from Mobile’s “All Photos”.

When you import the shots from your SD card to your iPad, it imports the RAW file, full size. If then you import them into LR Mobile, the RAW file gets uploaded to your Creative Cloud storage, and then when you open LR Classic, if you create a new folder in LR Classic and copy them from All Photos to that folder, they are downloaded to your drive.

I believe. I have not tried this, but this is my understanding from listening to a podcast with Victoria Bampton. Check her lightroomqueen.com site for her better explanation (in case I’m wrong!)

New Cloud images are always downloaded by Lightroom Classic. You do not have to do anything for that, like creating a new folder and copy them from ‘All Photographs’.

I believe the problem of duplication lies in the “2 mp versions” that the OP says are downloaded into the iPad. Those are clearly not the originals, and so they are treated as different images.

Yes, which is why I am trying to find out if there’s a way to force-merge them. I obviously don’t want to download the 20+ mb full-sized images on my iPad, which is why I do a 2mp format.

You can use the plugin discussed here, but there may be one caveat:

As those 2mp versions are jpegs, I wonder how well it will work to sync the edits between these files and your raw originals. A jpeg is already edited in the camera by the camera software, a raw file is not. That means that the raw file needs different edits in Lightroom than the corresponding jpeg file did.

Stephanie, each time when I upload RAWs in the field to get first impressions by rough editing on my iPad I have similar problems like you.
I also addressed them in this thread
https://feedback.photoshop.com/photos...
But until today I don‘t have a satisfying solution/workflow.

Yes, it's what the Syncomatic plugin does.

Downloaded, but because I'm uploading 2mp JPG to mobile and full-size JPG to Classic, it doesn't let me merge the files since the suffix is the same.

They have to be in different folders/collections.

Thank you, John.
Unfortunately my syncomatic doesn't work without flaws (win 10, latest LR versions, Nikon Nefs). Neither the develop settings nor the ratings and flags are synced.
And in my eyes offering the LR platform it should be Adobe's job the integrate such a functionality natively in LR.
my wush would be:
When importing via LR mobile only reduced copies (smart previews) are uploaded to tbe cloud (as an option) including all flags, ratings, keywords(!), GPSdata and development changings.
when importing the Raws to classic cc these settings are applied.

It has always synced develop settings, ratings and flags reliably, and I don't believe you've ever contacted me for help (my error). Contact me offline if you want.

John, you are right, my short test today with the Syncomatic plugin worked fine when importing duplicates on a harddisc.
have to check what went wrong when syncing files from the cloud with locally imprted ones (maybe somehow the filename wasn't recognized).

Anyway:
Yes, Syncomatic is a valuable tool and it could help solving the problem.
But I'm still convinced that Adobe should offer a native solution within their software platform.

John, I did a real workflow test today syncing hundrets of shots I forst uploaded via my iPad to the cloud with the RAWs/NEFs I loaded from my memory card to my PC directly.

And this time the Syncomatic plug worked perfectly!
It really did did a great job in supporting my workflow.
