LR Classic import failure.

Suddenly LR classic refuses to import files, declaring the there is no room on the HD when there is 1.5 GB available. Apparently LR has set acl restrictions on the destination folders (they show drwxr-xr-x+). How do I lift the acl blocks?

1.5GB is tiny. You really mean 1.5GB?

You really need between 10-15% free space on any hard drive in order for it to work properly. Let's skip the technical explanation for now, just trust my 25-year IT career. The free way is to do the math yourself, or you could get a utility to tell you when you are getting too close (Drive DX if you're a Mac User).

You need to offload your images to an external drive (or another drive) or delete other stuff (apps you don't use anymore, old data, etc.) Good instructions on the Lightroom Queen site on how to move your image files.

Which OS?

I found the solution! "N" is the answer. Using a terminal (Windows or Mac), move to the directory/folder where the problem is (e.g. cd /Pictures/2020, assuming the files are stored by date) and type:

  chmod -R -N *

This will remove the acl, if any, from all the files in the /Pictures/2020 folder. It will not affect the other permissions. Then the import will be successful. Problem solved. BTW I should have defined acl as the access control list, not limit.

Yeah, I was going to avoid suggesting Terminal surgery until all else failed, but great that you were able to look up the command yourself! Gold Star!

This actually made me examine the ACLs for my folders & files, and I spotted some discrepencies regarding the ACLs applied for different folders/files created by LR Classic. I've put it as a separate question: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lr-classic-on-macos-default-photo-file-folder...

However, I recommend Jack examine the permissions on his files & folders and keep an eye on my separate post for the responses, in case he needs to change his ACLs. For e.g., if his raw photo import folders are drwxr-xr-x then I suspect that would need to change (as the permissions are more open that I'd have thought it should be).

Cheers!
