Lightroom: Unable to read card or import pics on a Mac

I have an i5 Mac and LR3. I have been using them for a few months now with no issues as at all. As of this past week I have been unable to upload/import any pics at all from my SD cards. Either from the built in SD slot on the side, or my card reader into the usb slot in the back. I have been reading posts for the past 2-3 hours and have not come across a solution. Becoming increasingly aware that I will not be able to read them all.
All 6 of my SD cards are now full and my editing time frame is becoming overwhelming. I am in need of some serious help. Given how much complaining I have come across in the past 2-3 hours I would hope that Adobe would have come up with a step by step set of instructions by now to troubleshoot these problems. Is there a 'Light' at the end of the tunnel. (sorry, I couldn't help that one.) :-p
Ok guys, I loved this product until the ungliness reared it's head.. Can you help a guy out?

Jessie.

When you plug the card into your iMac, does is the card recognized by the computer? Does it show up in Finder?

Most SD cards have a 'switch' on the card which locks it. Check to make sure it's not locked.

Let us know if it shows up in Finder at all. We'll go from there.

Yes! And thank you Howard very much for recognizing and replying. LR responds, the images come up, but the import always winds up with unable to read. I tried the lock on the cards.. it didn't change the outcome. What exactly is 'Finder.'

Give this a shot: Preferences > File Handling > Camera Raw Cache settings and "Purge Cache."

There is no 'File handling' in 'System preferences'. And Finder cannot find 'File handling', or anything else for that matter in the Macintosh HD. Your suggestion was for a Mac, correct?

And yes, the card does show up in Finder.

Sorry, not in System Preferences. We're looking for the Preferences in Lightroom itself. When in Lightroom:

Click on Lightroom at the top left > Preferences > File Handling > Camera Raw Cache settings and "Purge Cache."

There is no top left click.

When you're in Lightroom, at the top left hand corner of your screen, you'll see the word "Lightroom".

Click on Lightroom.
Click on Preferences.
Go to File Handling.
At the bottom right, click on Purge Cache.

Try importing again.

Unless there is something fundamentally wrong, nothing happens when I click on the 'LR' icon....

You're not looking for an icon. You're looking for the word "Lightroom". It's a menu at the top left of your screen.
