Lightroom thumbnails are blurry

Brand new user, wanted to try Lightroom to see how it suits. First step > open a folder of photos. Looking at these thumbnails, they are all very blurry (highly pixellated). This happens whether I have two or two hundred photos. The idea was to use Lightroom to sort photos quickly. But if they are all blurry, there's no point to even trying.
Yes, I can see the photos sharply rendered if I select any individual one to display by itself. But that's not my purpose. I understood Lightroom would be helpful in sorting and organizing photos. But if the thumbnails are all going to be blurry, doing it in the Finder (Mac OS) is a whole lot easier.
Yes, I did search here for others who appeared to have the same problem, but there were no similar queries. Do people just put up with blurry thumbnails all the time?
Going to give up on this product.

Mine never are! Try turning off (or On) your GPU in the Lightroom Preferences, it may not be supported. I assume you’ve also rebooted?

It'll be great if you can post a screenshot of what you're seeing.

I've attached screenshots of how the thumbnails look - one of the full screen and one of a portion of the full screen. The originals are all 3024x4032 and very sharp.
Many colleagues and friends have told me they prefer Lightroom, so I thought I'd give it another try (I also tried it once about a decade ago). This time around, given how blurry the images always are, I can't see the point.
I did have to use Photoshop (which I've been using handily for 20 years) to reduce the image size to fit within the 2MB-per-image limit for uploading on this site. Note the clarity of the file names (the Lightroom desktop) versus the blurriness of the images displayed. No matter how big or small I make the thumbnails, the blurriness remains.

Second image seems not to have loaded - trying again here.

Correction - only one screenshot got uploaded.

I did try un-checking "Use Graphics Processor," though that's a dubious thing to try as it is in a section that is designated as "Camera Raw" and these are definitely not Camera Raw pictures.  In any case, it made no diffference.

Didn't need to reboot my operating system as it was already fresh from having just been booted up before launching Lightroom.

Probably not worth my time (or yours!) to figure this out. I've done very well without it for decades. More power to those for whom it seems to work. Doesn't work here.

Check  "Standard Preview Size" in Catalog Settings/File Handling.  Select pixel number just greater than your horizontal screen resolution.

The screen shot is the "import" grid view.  They are fuzzy on my machine too.  If you want to look at them at a higher resolution just make the thumbnails bigger in import grid view or switch to loupe view.  I don't think checking anything about creating Previews will affect what you see at import.
