Lightroom: Support Nikon D80 tethering

Why is the Nikon D80 not suppored by tethering in Lightroom 3. Two older models from Canon, EOS 350D and EOS 400D, are supported?
Please add the Nikon D80 so I can start using Lightroom 3.

Adobe gives me the impression that If you have an older camera that you don't cound. Not everyone has a lot of money Adobe!!

QK, thanks for your request. Adobe are using Nikon's own SDK for tethering support, so it's dependent on Nikon supporting it. The D80 is on Nikon's SDK list, but the D80 and D200 are the oldest on that list. Adobe had significant problems adding D200 support, and even then it's Mac-only, so I'm sorry to say you might be out of luck. Anything's possible, and the engineers will read and consider your request, but I don't want to give you false hope. At least you now know they're not ignoring you just because it's an older camera.

If the Adobe engineers can't get it done to add the D80 for tethering or they don't want to let them be honest and tell us. Now I can wait untill ????
The argument that it's an old camera won't stand the Canon 350D is older!

Is there a list were the Adobe engineers keep track were they are working on?

QK, the Adobe engineers are tracking this forum, and they'd have posted if they disagreed with my comments. There is no 'public' list of what they're working on, but the comments on this forum are a fair guide. I can only recommend that you take my comments as fact until/if you hear otherwise.

I agree the Canon 350d is older, but the SDK's are very different. Canon's SDK supports older cameras, even when they're not listed as supported, whereas Nikon's doesn't.

I'm sorry I can't give you better news. I understand you're frustrated, and I wish I could fix that, but I can't. You can use Lightroom 3 with your D80 - the only part you can't use is tethered support - which has never been advertised for that camera. Other than that, you can import and work on D80 files just like any other camera, regardless of how old it is.

You can use other tethering software, such as Nikon Camera Control, along with Lightroom's Watched Folder functionality, or you can complain to Nikon, to whom you gave loads of money for that camera. Canon give away free tethering software with their cameras, whereas Nikon expect you to pay for theirs. I've offered you a link to FREE Mac software that will happily work in conjunction with Lightroom's watched folder. Even Adobe's engineer's can't do any more right now.

QK, as a possible alternative (at least until Adobe build it, if they choose to do so, consider using Sofortbuild http://itunes.apple.com/app/sofortbil... and a Lightroom watched folder.
