I've been shooting tethered with both my D700 and D3. I have the D800 which is targetted for studio shooting and I can't use it tethered! I had no idea that it was not supported when I upgraded to LR4. PLEASE add the D800 to the list of supported cameras. It makes no sense to ignore a camera that has been targeted at studios to not be supported in the current LR release.
I'm adding my voice to the choir begging for D800 tethering with LR4. I have a high profile shoot this weekend that requires tethering, so my waiting is coming to an end. No way I'm using my D700 for this shoot while my D800 sits on a table.
I'll be using Aperture 3 and if all goes well, possibly switching permanently. Plus Aperture 3 supports my retina display.
Adobe, please update Lightroom 4 to allow tethered shooting with Nikon D4 cameras. I've been a long-time user and advocate of Lightroom, but I downloaded the trial version of Capture One last week because I can't wait any longer. I've had my D4 since April and while I can understand a delay after a camera is initially released, 5 months is far too long!
To me, this seems like a no-brainer. With the number of D800s on the market, you gotta believe that there are a lot of people looking to tether their camera to LR. Without LR support, people are starting to look to other software to cater to their needs, which is a dangerous trend. Once your loyal customer base starts checking out the competition, bad things are bound to happen!
adobe is curiously silent on this issue. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they made a back room deal with Canon.....
but, one can use Lightroom in watched folder mode if another program does the tethering.
me, I sold my new Nikons and went back toy favorite D3s and everything works great. sharper and cleaner than any of the new cameras....
Only Apple can explain why and how they do anything and we all know how willing they are to do that. Perhaps you should ask in an Apple forum and report back to us.
Rikk, here's the report ... since Apple DOES support tethering not only for the five new cameras I listed earlier ... but also twice as many cameras than what Lightroom supports ... I think it would be of concern to ALL Lightroom users why this feature isn't as important to Adobe ...
I didn't mention Apple or Aperture 3 to profess their superiority ... but to raise the question as to why Adobe places a lower level of importance on the feature for their users who depend upon tethering ... it may be unimportant or trivial to you ... but it is integral to many folks who depend upon such a feature in their daily tasks ...

The wait for tethering in LR4 for the D800 and D4 has gone on way too long. This feature should be a top priority for Adobe as it was a selling point for the software.
Hey folks the SDK is out and has been out! Several companies have Nikon D4 and D800 camera controls and tethering software. Adobe is just behind the curve!! Check out, www.controlMyNikon.com for a great PC program (Apple release late 2012) for doing a LOT more than Adobe does. Only $29.95 and 15 day full feature Trial download. Check it out...I could not pass it up. Oh, and it will download to lightroom 4.1 while saving to your camera card(s).
This discussion is about the lack of D4 and D800 tethering support in LR. According to the "ControlMyNikon" web site, these cameras aren't supported. Here's the list of supported cameras copied from their site:

Where's the D4? Where's the D800? Where on the site does it state that Mac support will specifically be available in 2012? How exactly does it provide tethering to LR? Almost anything will "download to lightroom 4.1" if you use a watched folder.

Okay, everyone. The LR 4.2 Release Candidate finally allows tethered support for the Nikon D800. I just downloaded and shot off several frames without any problems. You can find the release here:
