Lightroom: Slideshow play does not work (LR 3.6)

My first guess would be an outdated video driver. I'd try updating that. Determine what video card you have and go directly to the manufacturers website (nVidia or ATI/AMD) and download the latest driver.

Thanks for your response. nVidia did not have a update for my driver, found couple of updates published by Microsoft, one of them worked.
Updated from NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 v4.4.8.5 to v5.6.7.3

I acted too fast in updating the driver without realizing other potential impacts. Although the issue with slideshow was resolved, it messed up my notebook power options. After the driver update, my machine does not wake up from standby mode. It is a point of no return for me.

I would not have updated if I had knew this would be an issue. I would have lived without slideshow feature working in LR3, having to frequently shutdown my machine will severely hurt my productivity. Do you have a suggestion on how to fix this issue now?

It's a pity that instead of addressing issues with the application, consumers have to update their drivers to get it working. I have at least 3 freeware applications that have slideshow feature and works well for me. May not be apples to apples, but IMHO, based on numbers of problems I read, this is a bug in LR3. I paid big bucks for the software and received was a malfunction of a key feature.

Try to use a system restore point. Usually installing a new video driver causes XP to create a system restore point which you should be able to return to.

Failing that, installing another video driver may cure your problem.

I, too, have the feeling that something is wrong with the slideshow module of Lr 3.x. (same in Lr 4 preview, but no problem in Lr 2). I've already exposed my problem of getting black pages instead of a slideshow, with pictures popping up for only some milliseconds, and got the same suggestion of upgrading my video drivers, only that this is not possible on a Mac. Like you, I've got several slideshow programs working perfectly on my machine, and could thus well live without Lr slideshow. Actually, I'd like the Lr slideshow module to work just to be able to watch my images in REAL full screen. (Radeon 6750HD with 512Mb -GDDR5)
