in lightroom 5.7 when I start a slideshow I'm only getting a black screen. Remaining lightroom works fine. Any ideas?

This should be fixed in the CC2015.8/6.8 Update. Give it a try and let us know.

Thank you for reporting this problem!

The blank screen might be happened when :
a, The video function doesn’t work at all.
b, Some missing images without thumbnail or preview are listed in the Filmstrip when playing a slideshow.

Would you mind following those steps are as below, it’s a good way to diagnose this problem.
Step 1, Import a video file and play it in the Library module.
Step 2, If the video playback works, please import some images and create a new collection to include those images.
Step 3, Switch to the Slideshow Module. Then, select that new collection and select the “Default +” template. After that, start playing the slideshow.

If the blank screen has gone, I guess that there are some missing images in the Filmstrip when you are gonna play the slideshow. If you still observe the blank screen problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thanks for your proposals. I played the imported movie. It's playing even so the performance isn't great (the computer is an old laptop using a dual core processor 1.8GHz). The show generated using the Default+ template still shows only the frame and no pictures.

Well, it seems the video function works.
Do those pictures you are playing have the thumbnails in the filmstrip?

Yes the thumbnails are there, no problem. I guess there is something related to the graphics/drivers?

Would it be possible that you try to export a video in the Slideshow Module and take a look if the exported video works?

If this is still an issue to someone, I found the solution, reset Video Cache.
