Lightroom: Opacity slider on each develop tab

Thank you for the tips. However that is not my main request, I want to have the ability to adjust more in detail then just the present, i.e. each tab in the develop settings.

If you want to fine tune, just drag the relevant slider.

Most tabs include more than one slider and are mixed - eg noise reduction with sharpening, vignetting in the same tab as grain, clarity with exposure/brightness/black point. A single opacity setting for each tab would be a very blunt tool indeed. It's easy enough as it is now, and without pretending that the tabs are like Photoshop layers.

You mention that each tab is a mix between different sliders, and that is exactly my point! I might be happy with the mix of different sliders in, e.g. the Split tone tab, but I'm not happy with the STRENGTH of it, or the opacity that is.

In order to lower the strength of for example the split tone I have to adjust both sliders, and then have the risk of messing up the desired mix I already have. It's all about giving your photos the right look, and if I have a preset that gives me the right look in general, but for some photos that preset might not work 100%, then I want to fine tune that in a accurate and quick way.

And on top of that, it is faster to adjust one slider, then having to open tab and adjust two sliders.

Of course, in some cases an opacity slider on the tab is applicable and has to be modified to include a relevant group of adjustments. E.g. one for sharpen en one for noise reduction, under the detail tab.

I'd argue that my suggestion applies to; tone curve, split tone, sharpening, noise reduction, post crop vignette as well as grain.

For me as a professional photographer that edit a lot of photos each day, just hitting a preset and a quick fine tune would speed up my work flow even more. And as you know, time is money.

I do NOT think it is easy enough as it is now, if I thought so, I would not have suggested this in the first place.

One could probably concoct justifications for having this opacity slider on every tab, but in the end isn't this still just cluttering up Lightroom with Photoshop-era concepts? Far better to have improvements that focus on specific tasks. So in your Split Toning example it might well be good if Alt/Option dragging one Saturation slider caused both Saturation sliders to move in step, likewise with Hue. A lot more bangs for the development buck than trying to decide how to yoke together sliders which each deserve individual love and attention?

John: I don't know the best way to design LR to do this, my picture was just an example how I think it could be done. alt/ctrl-klick could be a solution.

I don't know what you mean by Photoshop-era cluttering, I just want a fast and simple way to adjust the strength of a group of adjustments. According to what I've already described.
