Lightroom: Make Keywords Visible in Shared Lightroom Web Albums

Keywords added to photos inside LR Classic or Lightroom Desktop app albums appear on the Web at  lightroom.adobe.com, but when the album is shared they are no longer visible at the share link. Not sure if I need to make this a request or a problem because I thought this was supported in earlier LR versions.

Todd, I've already asked Adobe if this is by design or an oversight/bug when they implemented the recent Info panel changes. There's now a dedicated Keywords panel in the Web app, similar to the desktop Lightroom app (and it appears that keywords are now also editable in the Web app), but viewing through the share link that Keywords panel isn't available.

They haven't responded to me yet about this, but I'm hoping it's a bug/oversight which will be corrected in due course. It wouldn't hurt to list your post as a  problem!

Thanks Jim I have it listed as a 'Problem' and will discuss with Rikk and Jeff at the next Lightroom Lobby meeting Oct 10.

Changed to an 'Idea' feature request since no response from Adobe to date. It's a no-brainer to provide keyword visibility in shared Web albums. This is "missing" from both LR Classic and LR Desktop created albums. Why?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Keyword and Star Rating visibility and filtering in shared Lightroom albums.

This issue has been brought up before and ignored so I created an account in an effort to bring this up again: I use the tags/keywords in Lightroom CC to sort my pictures into useful categories, and I see no reason why I should not be able to provide that same luxury for anyone viewing my photos if I am so inclined.

Even when enabling metadata viewing for online albums, the keywords are still hidden. At the very least, it would be nice to just VIEW the star rating and the tags, but I don't see any reason why the filtering features that have already been integrated into Lightroom web could not also be used with shared albums. Filtering by tags (multiple selection) and star ratings would give Lightroom users incentive to stay within the Lightroom ecosystem for publishing their work instead of using it merely as a sorting tool to later upload to Facebook or Flickr.

If this is something the Lightroom team doesn't have interest in pursuing, it would also be very welcomed in Adobe Portfolios, along with integration of basic metadata information.

This is definitely something we should consider. I'll discuss with the team and update when we get something in.

Thank you Alex. Just to be clear keywords were previously supported in shared albums. Support was removed in a LR update issued 8-12 months ago that added the ability to edit keywords in LR Mobile and Web apps. That's what's confusing. I can't see why adding editing capability would require removing keyword support from shared albums. It affects both LR Classic synced collections and LR Desktop albums.

It ought to have a sharing preference checkbox on it too, I wouldn't want all my keywords shown to the world.

Victoria, there's no need for a sharing preference checkbox. All I'm requesting is the ability to see keywords that have been assigned to each specific image file in a shared album. Keywords assigned in LR Classic and Desktop were previously visible. I'm just asking for that capability to be restored.

I'm obviously misunderstanding... this is the public share link we're talking about? So when you share a gallery of photos, you want the recipient to be able to see the keywords? Or just yourself in your logged in web interface?

I requested public visibility and my request was merged with Todd, who seems to be wanting private visibility

Folks, you're overthinking this request!

I just want ANY shared album regardless of whether it's public or a private invite to show keywords that have been assigned to the photos. Of course 'Show Metadata' would have to be checked when creating the share link, but as it is now with that checked keywords are not visible. This worked up until 8-12 months when Adobe made changes to allow editing keywords in LR Mobile and Web apps. I am simply requesting that the previous visibility of keywords be restored to shared albums.

"I wouldn't want all my keywords shown to the world."

If you don't want users to see your keywords simply uncheck 'Show Metadata' in the Share & Invite options panel. There's no need to remove keyword support from shared albums to accomplish that objective.

What really surprised me is that very few people have complained and there are only five 'Me Toos' for this request. Why? Do you use keywords? Do you want users you share albums with to be able to see those keywords you've so diligently entered? Keywords are an essential component of digital asset management. Enough said!

That's not the answer, Todd. I do want a lot of the metadata to be shown (Titles, Captions, Location, Exif), but I'm rather indifferent about having the keywords shown as the folks that I share with would feel pretty indifferent too. But if Keywords are included I agree with Victoria that there are some that wouldn't make any sense to the viewer so are best excluded. So unchecking the Show Metadata option just to stop keywords being shown would be an unacceptable solution, but if keywords must be included as you want I'd prefer to have the ability to exclude some of them.

Jim, I have no issue with adding a separate option in 'Share & Invite' to disable keyword visibility in shared albums. The point is keywords were previously visible and the only option to hide them was to uncheck Show Metadata. I have yet to see a single post in this forum or the Adobe forums specifically requesting a way to "hide" keywords in shared albums.

Alex Dixon is following this post. Both Victoria's and your comment are duly noted.

+1 on this.  I recently shared an album and was surprised that keywords were not included in the visible metadata.  It's too bad because keywords are one of the lightroom features I use the most.

If I am sharing albums for people to download and use on social media/web I want keywords to be in the metadata. I add keywords for SEO etc, it really is important that images I send out have this intact as standard, as well as an option to hide.  I wouldnt have specified 'include all metadata' on export if I didnt want it included in the downloadable jpg!

When jpgs are downloaded from shared albums, only the IPTC copywrite info is included in the file. I really need to have all IPTC metadata (title, captions etc etc ) included with this file on download. Is this possible at all?

Agreed. That information is selectable in the album Share Settings as 'Show Metadata'  and 'Show Location Information' and it is visible on the Web. Some people have stated they don't want their keywords visible in shared albums. As already suggested an additional selector can be easily added to the album Share Settings to hide them (Show Keywords).
I've been working on a genealogy photo project with several family members, which I had to move to another platform because of this change and other issues. I understand Adobe wants to keep the LR Cloud based ecosystem "simple" and easy to use. However, in it's current state it's not very useful for these purposes.

I would not only make keywords visible to people invited to contribute but also allow them to use filters, search by keywords, change order... If they are meant to collaborate they should be able to perform those basic actions. Thank you!
