Lightroom: Language selector and Keyboard shortcuts

I have ordered LR3 English for my Mac OSX 10.6.8 Swiss German. After installation I got a German version of LR and there is no way to change that, asside from using a third party app. In PS CS5 I do not have this problem. Could you please implement that in the next update?

What would also be very important is, that I can change the keyboard shortcuts in LR, since some of them (e.g. "zoom in") are not available on the Mac ext. Keyborad for Swiss-German.

You can change language very easily under
Edit/Preferences/General

Bearbeiten/Voreinstellungen/Sprache

And have a search for Keyboard Tamer.

Thank for your proposal but this could work in Windows-PC's but does not work in Mac. What you wrote does not exist in the Mac version. I also had contacted Adobe support. They told me to use an extra app to change the language, because since OSX 10.6 there is no more way to change the language in the system, as it was before.

Keyboard Tamer I have already found and tested. It works well- but I will have to purchase a key to use it. I find this should not be the case and therefore is should be included in LR, as e.g. in PSCS.

You can change the language of your mac in Snow Leopard: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2490#l6
Lightroom will follow the change.

Hi

Thank you. I know that trick, but I do not want to change the system language. Before doing that I would prefer to use the free apple app.

Right click on the program.
"Show package content"
->contents
edit within the info.plist file to "de"
de
(you might change the file permissions)

there you go

Hi didi

Thank you for your way to go. Could you explain if I have to change the sentece DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0/EN ?
As you see EN is shown, as I would like to use LR, why should I change to "de"?

Looking forward to your answer.

Oh sorry, it should read en in your case. I forgot you wanted german-english, not the other way round.

the Part to change you will find later in the text:

string > en < /string

Hi
thank you again. In my case, I find exactly this text as written by you: string>en</string - but as you can see in my starting text, LR3 starts in German. It seems that I have to live with that. What I found strange (or stupid) is that I had to !! choose the language, when ordering LR 3 - that makes absolutley no sense to me - but any way.

Hi

Thank you very much - I hope that will be also the case in the final version. Do you have any informations if one could also change the keyboard shortcuts - because a lot of the standard shortcuts do not work on non US-keyoards.

Hi Victoria

Thank you for your comment. I use the Keyboard Tamer plug-in in LR3 and it works fine - I suppose I will have to pay again for the LR4 version.
I am on Mac OSX 10.6.8 and would be happy to know how to change manually the shortcuts with a text editor. I would be grateful if you have a step by step instruction.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Victoria

Thank you very much for this helpful explanation. Which text editor do you would you recommend (OSX 10.6.8) for doing this task as easy as possible?

There are a lot of shortcuts within LR which is very good. But still there are some circumstances, where they will be rendered completely usless as of different keyboard layouts in different countries.
Example: German version of LR: The shortcuts for zooming in and out are the + and # keys. So far so good. There are a number of countries which also use german langugage, such as switzerland. The point is, swiss keyboards have quite a different layout from german ones - and quite some of these keys are only to acheive with shift or AltGr modifiers. And that's the problem - it doesn't work. So there are whole countries out there which are not able to use the keyboard shortcuts. I guess there are more countries which are problematic, not just switzerland. As I understand, within Lightroom there is Language = Keyboard of main country the language is used.
Or am I missing something?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Keyboard shortcuts: no way to use them for e.g. Swiss Keyboards.

Here's an updated version of those instructions: http://members.lightroomqueen.com/ind...

Rik, my apologies for missing your note. TextWrangler on the Mac is a great free plain text editor.
