Lightroom: High performance GPU always used on battery power

On 2015 and 2018 macbook pro units while on battery (and on power source) with the high performance GPU option unchecked in LR it's still using the high performance GPU as show in activity monitor
Surely it should still be using the integrated? The integrated card is powerful enough for editing and I'd imagine is more power efficient
How come it's still using/selecting the high performance GPU?

Maybe you have the “use graphics card” preference selected in Lightroom preferences?

How do you choose the high performance GPU option? Are you referring to the Energy Saver option in the System Preferences to allow automatic graphics switching? Like the following?

I have tried with both automatic graphics switching on and off, currently it is set to on, but neither option makes any difference unfortunately

Lightroom does not pick and choose which GPU it is using. It is just using the default GPU as reported by the OS at Lightroom's launch. Lr does not support dynamic graphics switching in the middle of Lightroom application session.

Whether it is the mac or it is lightroom that is choosing i don't know but it is using the integrated graphics card before LR is launched and then it switches to high performance, when lightroom is closed it switches back to integrated.
So something software based is triggering the switch

I can support what Alex and Jenni said. My macbook pro shows the same behaviour: when Lightroom is closed, it is on integrated and once I open Lightroom, it switches to high performance.
