Not a problem

LIGHTROOM: Edit In Photoshop problem

I am trying to edit a .tif file from Lightroom 4 with PS CS 5.1. It allows me to 'Edit In...' with options 2 and 3, but if I choose "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments," it opens up PS, but not the file. What gives?

Is CS5 updated to ACR 6.7?

If so, go to LR's preferences and press the Reset Warning Dialogs button and see if that does the trick.

ACR is current according the the Update Manager. How can I check for the actual version? The reset didn't change anything.

Open a raw file directly into ACR dialog and it'll have the version number in the window title bar or in the ACR preferences dialog.

And this is definitely a TIFF, not an unsupported raw file? Have you tried something like a JPEG too?

ACR is 6.7. It's a .tif created from a "Merge to HDR Pro." I'm able to open up .dng and .jpg files with no problems.

Bingo. ACR 6.7 can't handle 32-bit HDR files.

When you use Edit in Photoshop, LR passes the original data plus the settings to ACR and ACR runs the conversion - except it can't in this case. Use the Export dialog to export to a 16-bit TIFF with LR adjustments and open that in Photoshop instead.

Alternatively, update to CS6, as ACR 7.1 and later can handle 32-bit HDR files.

Cool, I'm glad we got to the bottom of it. It'd be nice if a dialog popped up to say as much instead of opening up PS and just sitting there. I'd love to upgrade to CS6, but can't justify the cost. Thank you for your help.

That's a good point. Does 6.7 not pop up the ACR version mismatch dialog? If not, I think that's a bug.
