Lightroom Classic: "Synchronize Settings" very slow, using 10% CPU

I have a 300-image (NEF) folder where I highlighted all images, turned on Auto Sync, then adjusted the sharpness, noise and applied lens corrections. LR Classic has taken about 15 minutes to process 50% of them. When inspecting the CPU, it's only being 10% utilized (out of 1600%)... basically the system is idle. -- 8700K@5GHz with 64GB 3GHz DDR4 ram.

Sean,

Thanks for the detailed information.

I am curious if you were to turn off Auto Sync and instead, copy and paste the settings from one image to 299 images if the operation is faster, slower or takes the same amount of time?

Returning to your original workflow, if you don't apply Lens Corrections is the time affected? If you apply lens corrections but not noise/sharpness?

Here's my CPU utilization when I have a few hundred images selected, AUTO SYNC enabled, and choose to apply lens profile corrections.

Chiming in here, I have similar issues with very slow copy/pasting of settings or syncing of settings. I'm on a maxed out 2015 MBPro with the latest OS and the latest update of LR Classic.

Hi there,

since version 8.x? the sync / paste settings function is very slow. I read about this issue here:

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2608215
https://forums.adobe.com/message/11089395#11089395

I use always new catalogues, ' Optimize Catalog' does not help. Can anybody from Adobe check this issue please?

Thanks!

Hi Sewi,

Can you provide some details on what settings you are syncing? Also since which release are you seeing this slowness?

Thanks,
Chinoy

Looks like there's a bug with Auto Sync and Lens Corrections > Enable Profile Corrections.  The workaround for this particular bug is to avoid Auto Sync and use Copy/Paste Develop Settings or "Sync..." instead.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Select 400 raws.

2. Edit one of the raws in Develop.

3. Make sure Auto Sync is disabled.

4. Check Enable Profile Corrections.

5. Click Sync, check just Lens Profile Corrections, and click Synchronize. Observe the progress bar -- it takes less than 3 seconds for the sync to complete on 400 photos, or about 145 photos/sec.

6. In Library, do Develop Settings > Reset.

7. Edit one of the raws.

8. Enable Auto Sync.

9. Check Enable Profile Corrections.  Observe that it takes a couple of minutes for the progress bar to indicate completion -- about 2.5 photos/sec.

Tested on LR 8.3.1 / Mac OS 10.14.5.

Thanks for more information John. We will keep this data in mind during our investigation.

Any News about the issue? Sorry, Adobe that is really frustrating.

Is this getting looked at? The latest update did not address this issue at all. Every single timelapse photographer I know is complaining about this.

This stupid software becomes more unusable every update. I'm on a brand new desktop system and lightroom runs the same speed as it does on my tablet which was not designed for editing. How can syncing settings take MINUTES. Ridiculous.

Paste settings are taking a sheet ton of time on 8.4 looking for other software application solutions atm.

I'm having issues for the first time with this starting about a week ago. It's taking wayyyy too long and slowing down my editing dramatically. I hope this gets fixed soon! Because I can't afford this.

I just re-tested the bug recipe and workaround I posted 5 months ago:
https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/-synchronize-settings-very-slow-using-10-cpu?...

I got roughly comparable results, with Sync of Enable Lens Profile Corrections to 458 photos taking less than 2 seconds, while Auto Sync taking 35 seconds.

Tested on LR 8.4.1 / Mac OS 10.14.6 / Macbook Pro 15" (2019)

We have been able to reproduce the slowness with Auto-Sync and Lens Correction and we are actively investigating it.

But we don't have a reproducible case of slowness in Sync/Copy-Paste. It will be really helpful if someone who is facing this can elaborate on what settings are being Synced or Pasted. That will help us in diagnosing and fixing the issue.

Thanks,
Chinoy

Same issues for me. I just rebuilt my PC (NVMe drives, 9700k, 48gb RAM, etc.), and upgraded from LR5 (which is drastically faster with develop processes), and I'm really disappointed. Things that would take under 10 seconds in LR5 (on my 8 year old computer) take 10 times longer or more. Most of what is being mentioned here is applies to my situation as well. I really hope Adobe addresses this.
