Lightroom Classic: Switch between smart preview and original file work

Currently to switch culling/editing to smart preview I have to disconnect the drive with original files. I would be great if there was a switch in Lightroom to choose between working on originals or on smart previews.

Check Lightroom>Preferences>Performance>Use Smart Previews instead of Originals for image editing

I don't think it works. If original is present, Lightroom will still use original. Can you check?

thanks

What Lightroom uses depends on the kind of edit. When you zoom in to 100% to change sharpening or add noise reduction, then Lightroom will use the original. That is a good thing, because doing that with a smaller smart preview will not correctly show you the effect. Other edits, like the basic sliders, will be done using the smart preview, but only as long as you do not zoom in to 100%.

thanks - I will experiment then. I noticed that zoom works on original, so I assumed everything does,
