Lightroom Classic: Smudging when exporting to jpg after using spot healing

I'm using spot healing to reduce some shadows/background imperfections until they look fine in LR Desktop, but upon exporting to jpg these spots show smudges that aren't present at all in Develop. I've had to resort to making a synced collection for sharing, as it looks like the problem doesn't propagate to LR CC.

In LR:

After exporting:

Any ideas?

You mention Lightroom CC in your post but you are using Lightroom Classic. I will change this to the appropriate tag.

Hello Micheal,

It might help to know a little more. Is the image cropped? What are the spot removal settings (size, feather, opacity)? A screen shot showing its position and where the sampling source is positioned.

I have seen the spot removal tool produce smudging like this, but usually on a cropped image where the sampled area is outside the cropped area and the smudged result is visible when editing, not just on export. So your problem is a little different.

The spot removal area does go over the edge a little bit, but it's odd that the preview within Lightroom (Develop, Loupe, any mode) wouldn't show any errors.

The only workaround I could figure out was to export, reimport, then spot heal on the smudged areas, but this is obviously not ideal.

It is odd that you don't see the spot removal (smudge) in the preview. Could it be that the preview is not being updated properly to reflect the develop changes? That seems to happen to some users. You could quit Lightroom, restart and then zoom in to 1:1 and see if the preview updates.

Reported some time ago and has been an issue in my mind for a long time:

Follow through to the merged topic for more discussion.

the image looks cropped and the problem is that lightroom still gets a part of the crop part
